Quote:#8 – Lil’ Kim

end of story.

- HollywoodJewMoses - 01-07-2004

where is Hot Karl MC and Macho Man?

- Zootybang - 01-07-2004

I dont see young black teenagers OR funkdoobiest. Total sham.

- GonzoStyle - 01-07-2004

But remember one thing, this list was compiled from votes collected by MTV viewers, not any actual people who know anything about music. So ofcourse they are gonna vote for such a horrible list, it's mainly a bunch of 12 year old suburb kids who vote according to what they see on MTV or hear their friends who actually know something, say about hip hop. That is why I am surprised chuck d and krs even made the list but understand why they made it in so low, I am amazed rakim even made it as high as he did but most people probably voted for him cause they heard his name for years and probably never even heard Paid In Full. Ofcourse 2pac, biggie, and eminem are the top 3 because those are the only names they have heard for the past 4 years and they think rap began with them.

I mean fuckin nelly? come on.

- HollywoodJewMoses - 01-07-2004

e.i. UH OHHHHHHHHHH

- GonzoStyle - 01-07-2004

yeah yeah, it's hot in hurrrr

- GonzoStyle - 01-09-2004

well here is my top 22, it was hard to narrow it down and leave certain people out. I left out some people or groups because this list is strictly about who is the best MC, not who was the most influential. Cause if you wanna get with the influentialists then it is a completely different list.

Kid wanted to not just do a list, he wanted to post lyrics to back up the choices so I did that, thats why it took so long and why the post is pretty long.

#22 – Ras Kass
Quote:I ain't never seen an angel, virgin bitches with halos
But my secular metaphysical theology is fatal
Because me with a mic cable is a religious experience in itself
I got a message from God
He said, "Don't even try to fuck with me," suckered reluctantly
Carried the cross and uppercuts and at that, I'm hazardous
I speak to the heads and raise the dead like Lazarus
Led the fucking lambs to the slaughter, and walked on water
When it's frozen, in the ground influence and I'm on point

#21 – LL. Cool J.
Quote:Can’t believe you tried to get the same mic as me,
Your grip’s too weak, you can’t hold it, b.
You can dream of makin’ progress and gettin’ this nice,
But when I roll up, it’s like hip hop vice.
Serve to curbs, I never swerve a superb.
Every word you heard played tricks on your nerves.
Played your hand, lost track of your plan,
When I show up, I blow up, end of story, my man.
Play you like a poker chip, that’s what you get.
I bet your fret, sweat, and regret you met
The titan of fightin’, excitin’ when writin’,
You’re trite from the toy, boy, I gotta enlight, so start bitin’.

#20 – Big Pun
Quote:my murderous rap verbal attack is actual fact
Tactical tracks match perfectly with graphical stats
Half a you lack the magical dap of tragical rap
That tackles you back and shackles and laughs at you
That's...the mathematical madness I'm on, the savage, the strong
The marriage, a bond of havoc and song

#19 – Canibus
Quote:Watch the ripper crucify you with verse
My urethra to ya uvula, quenches your thirst
Put your flames out with dry desert dirt where leopards lurk
Lock your soul down with an esoteric weapon search
Strap a bomb to one of your labels record clerks
And activate it as soon as they get to work
Ring the alarm, red alert, nigga it gets worse
Bypass security networks with select words
Megahertz make nebulas reverse till your head burst

#18 – Common
Quote:A prophet, raised among black disciples and Vice Lords
Who don't give a fuck about mic cords and nice swords
get up, together black risk your cup
I'm wishin for a change, my man want his change in a cup

#17 – Scarface
Quote:Now as I open up my story
with the blaze a your blunts
And you can picture thoughts slowly
up on phrases I wrote
And I can walk you through the days that I done
I often wish that I could save everyone but I'm a dreamer
Have you ever seen a nigga who was strong in the game
overlookin' his tomorrows and they finally came?

#16 – Method Man
Quote:I came to bring the pain hardcore from the brain
Let's go inside my astral plane
Find out my mental's based on instrumental
records hey, so I can write monumental
Methods, I'm not the King
But niggaz is decaf I stick em for the CREAM
check it, just how deep can shit get
Deep as the abyss and brothers is mad fish accept it

#15 – DMX
Quote:Let me think you wanna try it, fuck around and start a riot
Niggas gonna buy it, regardless because I'm the hardest rap artist and I'ma start this
Shit up foreal, get up and squeal, my words. I make herbs split up and feel. Ill is all I've been hearin lately

#14 – Ice Cube
Quote:I saw it comin’, that’s why I went solo.
And kept on stompin’,
When y’all mothafuckers moved straight outta compton.
Livin’ with the whites, one big house,
And not another nigga in site.
I started off with too much cargo,
Dropped four niggas now I’m makin’ all the dough.

#13 – Big L
Quote:No one can match me, tax me or wax me
If you want me to write you some raps G just ask me
Cause on the shelf is where your LP cold stood
Because it was no good, that shit ain't even go wood

#12 – GZA The Genius
Quote:Picture bloodbaths and elevator shafts
Like these murderous rhymes tight from genuine craft
Check the print, it's where veterans spark the letterings
Slow moving MC's is waitin for the editin
The liquid soluble that made up the chemistry
A gaseous element, that burned down your ministry
Herbal vapors, and biblical papers
Smokin Exodus, every square yard is plush

#11 – Snoop Doggy Dogg
Quote:Unfadable, so please don't try to fade this
But, uh, back to the lecture at hand
Perfection is perfected, so I'm 'a let 'em understand
From a young G's perspective

#10 – Raekwon The Chef
Quote:Sit back relax, fake niggaz don't get turns
Watch me massage ya brain with slang that's king
Projects filled with young men cause threats
Who is that? Thousand dollar chains and techs
Focus, the brokest niggaz of life shit
These mics is like cocaine Sun, check the suicidal hype shit

#9 – Eminem
Quote:I’m about to kill it, I can feel it building up,
Blow this building up, I’ve been sealed enough,
My cup run it over I’ve been filled up,
But then explosion bust and spills my guts,
You think all I do is stand here and feel my nuts,
But I’m a show you what, you gonna feel my rush,
You don’t feel it then it must be too real to touch,
Feel to touch, I’m about to tear shit up,
Goosebumps, yeah I’m make your hair sit up,
Yeah sit up, I’m a tell you who I be,
I’m make you hate me cause you ain’t me

#8 – Q-Tip/A Tribe Called Quest
Quote:Shocka called me up to do this thing for Soundbombing
And I figured that I'd do it cause it wasn't no harmin'
Shine a little bit in case somebody was forgettin'
About that Queens motherfucker, y'all need to take cover
I'ma take position and y'all best to take sha-hida
Cause the shit that I spit is hot as hellfire, hotter
Sendin' this to Cross

#7 – Chuck D/Public Enemy
Quote:Elvis was a hero to most
But he never meant shit to me you see
Straight up racist that sucker was
Simple and plain
Mother fuck him and John Wayne
Cause I'm Black and I'm proud
I'm ready and hyped plus I'm amped
Most of my heroes don't appear on no stamps
Sample a look back you look and find
Nothing but rednecks for 400 years if you check
Don't worry be happy
Was a number one jam
Damn if I say it you can slap me right here

#6 – Biggie Smalls
Quote:Your reign on the top was short like leprechauns
As I crush so-called willies, thugs, and rapper-dons
Get in that ass, quick fast, like ramadan
Its that rap phenomenon don-dadda, fuck poppa
You got ta, call me, francis m.h. white
In tank-light totes, tote iron
Was told in shootouts, stay low, and keep firin
Keep extra clips for extra shit
Who’s next to flip, on that cat with that grip on rap

#5 – Rakim/Eric B. & Rakim
Quote:I came in the door, I said it before
I never let the mic magnatize me no more
But it’s biting me, fighting me, inviting me to rhyme
I can’t hold it back, I’m looking for the line,
Taking off my coat, clearing my throat
My rhyme will be kicking it until I hit my last note
My mind’ll range to find all kinds of ideas
Self-esteem makes it seem like a thought took years to build
But still say a rhyme after the next one
Prepared, never scared, I’ll just bless one

#4 – Nas

Best storyteller thug narrator my style’s greater
Model dater, big threat to a lot of you haters...
Most of the best is in the essence
For this rap shit that I stand for

#3 – KRS-One/BDP

Relying on talent, not marketing and promotion
If a dope lyrical flow is a must
You gots to go with a name you can quickly trust
I'm not sayin I'm number one, uhh I'm sorry, I lied
I'm number one, two, three, four and five
Stop wastin your money on marketing schemes
and pretty packages pushin dreams to the beams
A dope MC is a dope MC

#2 – Jay-Z
Quote:I'd rather die enormous than live dormant that's how we on it
Live at the main event, I bet a trip to Maui on it
Presidential suites my resedential for the weekend

The INXS rental, don't be fooled my game is mental
We both out of town dog, what you tryin to get into?

#1 – 2Pac

We under I wonder what it takes to make this
one better place, let's erase the wasted
Take the evil out the people they'll be acting right
'cause both black and white is smokin' crack tonight
and only time we chill is when we kill each other
it takes skill to be real, time to heal each other

- Keyser Soze - 01-09-2004

that one funkdoobiest album was dope as hell

a couple i left off my list that had me thinking i need to reconsider after reading gonzo's are Q-Tip, RZA, and GZA.

Only Made For Cuban Links and Liquid Swords are 2 albums that I must have listened to a million times. The Low End Theory has to be one of the top three hip hop albums ever made. These 3 MCs are glaring omissions from my list. I'm going to have to try and rework it again to see where they fit.

- PatCooper - 01-09-2004

Bunch of fucking wiggers.
oh and fuck lil kim. she's awful.

Raekwon, not RZA

- Galt - 01-10-2004

Shaquille O'Neal had better rhymes than half the people on this list.

"I'm Outstanding" should have won a grammy.

- GonzoStyle - 01-12-2004

I had a rough time leavin out Kane but good choice.

- Keyser Soze - 03-23-2004

Big Pun for this line alone...

"dead in the middle of little italy. little did we know we riddled. some middle men that didn't know didiley"

Guru is also an excellent choice I left off that should be in there somewhere. Premier produced some incredible albums.

- Rooner - 03-23-2004

Damn, Im ashamed I made my thread after this. My apologies to all involved. Ive been humbled. And I must rework my list as well after seeing some of the points made here. Im ashamed to have left Guru, Rakim, KRS, and Scarface off my list.
