Just curious...how widespread do you think steroids were during the late 90's-early 2000's, before BALCO and speculation turned to assumption? What percentage of Major League Baseball players were in some way juicing (and I don't mean Creatine and other supplements)?

it's really hard to say, I mean I think you can assume that because it wasn't policed it was probably rampant - then again if it was rampant then why weren't there so many players putting up amazing numbers? I guess it can be argued that what one steroid might do for one person, it wont for another (based on genetic disposition/chemcial reactions) and therefore simply because people don't "see" the effects it doesn't mean they weren't being taken. If you go by what Canseco says (who seems to be telling the truth more & more as each day passes), then pretty much everyone was taking them.

So assuming the idea that people will knowinglyand willingly do things they shouldn't because they think they won't get caught, I'd assume it was at least in the 50% range, if not more.

flawed structure of a poll. You can affect votes just by picking the range.

if it's 5% or 20%, it all falls into who is actually using, is it people like that florida outfielder who was the 1st one caught or is it people like plamiero, giambi, and bonds who are putting up numbers that actually mean something. I think its more of who is using rather than a number cause even 5% is a lot. Giambi obviouslly admitted it, palmiero was caught and bonds somewhat admitted it. That is more damning to the game than ryan franklin because people like giambi, bonds, etc are the ones who bring the fans in, they're the ones who's jersey's and merchandise people buy up and if they're the ones tainting the game then thats the real issue. Same goes for other sports, if Garnett got caught juicing then thats more hurtful to the sport than 50 darko's getting caught.
