And anyone else with a pair of balls.

Which FIVE fights below would you consider the greatest of all-time?

- Keyser Soze - 02-24-2006

what does balls have to do with this?

- GonzoStyle - 02-24-2006

Jack Dempsey-Luis 'Angel' Firpo -- Sept. 14, 1923
Joe Louis-Billy Conn (I) -- June 18, 1941
Tony Zale-Rocky Graziano (I and II) -- Sept. 27, 1946 and July 16, 1947
Willie Pep-Sandy Saddler (II) -- Feb. 11, 1949
Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier (III) -- Oct. 1, 1975
George Foreman-Ryan Lyle -- Jan. 24, 1976
Larry Holmes-Ken Norton -- June 9, 1978
Aaron Pryor-Alexis Arguello (I) -- Nov. 12, 1982
Marvin Hagler-Tommy Hearns -- April 15, 1985
Evander Holyfield-Riddick Bowe (I) -- Nov. 13, 1992

of the above fights the only one I havent seen is Sadler Vs. Pep, because the footage doesnt exist allegedly but from a historic viewpoint its considered one of the greatest fights ever, so on hearsay I submit it into my top 10.

because womens opinions on sport subjects are irrelevant.

Gatti-Ward!

- GonzoStyle - 02-24-2006

Gatti vs. Ward was entertaining but not even close to the category of greatest fights of all time, they were two guys who were tailored for eachother but seperately were journeymen at best.

- Keyser Soze - 02-24-2006

im but a wee novice boxing fan but gotti-ward was the best fight i had ever seen

- GonzoStyle - 02-24-2006

It was an entertaining fight but it can't be considered a great fight because there was nothing at stake and the two fighters were not world class contenders or champions.

- Keyser Soze - 02-24-2006

we are looking at it with two different sets of eyes, you can't see it for the pure essence of two men so perfectly matched, in a fight with such perfectly balanced drama its as if it was scripted.

- GonzoStyle - 02-24-2006

I am seeing your point perfectly, it was an amazing fight, very entertaining and the reason for that was because they are both balls out brawlers. The 2nd and 3rd fights were a farce because Gatti decided to box Ward and it was a huge mismatch. The point is that both fighters do not come even close to being elite or even contenders, they are proving grounds for many great fighters but they themselves were never considered great fighters.

Entertaining fighters? Yes! Great or even good fighters? No.

So their fight can't be considered in the same list with ali vs. frazier or holmes and norton. These were premier fighters who met in or close to their primes and had a lot at stake.

If I was asked my top 10 FAVORITE fights, then gatti - ward ranks in the top 10.

Marvin Hagler-Tommy Hearns -- April 15, 1985

a fight I can remember - great right from the bell. back in the day when you used to get good fights on TV also

because of the weight class, full of action.

I believe it was Hagler who uttered one of my quote. When asked why he was such a fierce competitor, he replied that he imagines that his opponent is trying to take food out of his kid's mouths.

peter dragon?!?!?

arena football cant be far behind!

- Black Lazerus - 02-25-2006

i must say it took the likes of gooch to post a boxing thread that people actually responded to.

- GonzoStyle - 02-25-2006

I dunno how they narrowed it down to 20 but there are some glaring omissions from the list though, especially fights from the last 20 years.

Erik Morales Vs. Marco Antonio Barrera I
Roberto Duran Vs. Iran Barkley
Roberto Duran Vs. Ray Leonard I
Oscar Delahoya Vs. Ike Quartey
Marvin Hagler Vs. John Mugabi
Fernando Vargas Vs. Felix Trinidad
Oscar Delahoya Vs. Shane Mosley I
Sugar Ray Leonard Vs. Marvin Hagler

- Gooch - 02-25-2006

i agree with these....

Erik Morales Vs. Marco Antonio Barrera I

Roberto Duran Vs. Ray Leonard I

Sugar Ray Leonard Vs. Marvin Hagler

- Galt - 02-25-2006

Dustin Diamond vs. Ron Palillo
