the list is bad and there's many people too far back and many too far up.

but the #1 choice may be the worst #1 choice ever, atleast in most cases it can be argued but in this case I can't see an argument.

jfk jr. is a bigger icon than jfk?

- GonzoStyle - 07-23-2003

Babe Ruth at 136?

It's like they put up all the people in the past 20 years who made a headline and then threw in everyone else. Babe Ruth whose peak was in the 1920's is still the measuring stick by the fans and most players, even bonds said it's more important to pass ruth than aaron to him. Babe Ruth may have been the most popular athlete of all times, with Ali & Jordan arguable #1's.

Jackie Gleason at 175 and Lucy at 4, come on.

that's just a grain of it.

...well, she is the most powerful woman on the planet, has one of the longest and most well known tv talk shows, hosts a popular book club, and has had a successful magazine , along with film credits... if you compare the #200 to the #1, sure, alot of people know the Rock, but just about everyone knows who Oprah is...

Yeah but look at who she is ahead of, if she is the greatest pop icon of all times it doesn't say much about us. Let's put bill gates at #1 if we base it on sucess. But while she did have influence on culture compared to others on the list she isn't a ripple in the ocean.

he was in titanic dude. titanic > the godfather + scarface!!!

you're right, you are my arch nemesis.

- The Jays - 07-23-2003

JFK Jr. has more time in the spotlight than his father, and had the whole father-was-president-and-was-assassinated-in-cavalcade, uncle-assassinated-later thing attached to him, as well as being the most eligible bachelor for quite a while, plus he died in a plane crash.... I could see it getting argued....

Britney, dunno, Katie Couric, no, Lopez, no, Friends cast, no...

Leo DiCap, he did have the lead role in the biggest movie blockbuster of all time...

what a disgusting list. oprah is a piece of shit

- The Jays - 07-23-2003

... I'm sure your top ten would include names like Kevin, Jason, Johnny, and Bam....

you're a fucking moron

- The Jays - 07-23-2003

...in what way?

- QuickStop - 07-23-2003

cause you feel the need to make yourself stand out by agreeing with this stupid list.

- The Sleeper - 07-23-2003

I do not disagree with a single choice on this list. Bravo VH1! Another triumph!

- QuickStop - 07-23-2003

well harumph to you, too

- Galt - 07-23-2003

Interestingly enough, I agree with this entire list. From top to bottom. In fact. Were I to create my own list from scratch, it would be identical to this list. It's quite eerie, actually.

edit. Seriously Sleeper. Fuck you and your 60 second betterness than me.

... while it is true that I always feel the need make to myself stand out due the the hand that I was dealt in life, I also feel the need to argue the case for Oprah being, if not number 1, in the top three... While I am not a fan of her, I can see how she can be such a popular icon of culture...

Same for Bill Clinton, who, while I absolutly detest him, has an astounding popularity and has touched a great deal of humanity, not just by being a very flamboyant president, but for also being involved in such a large contraversy...

There is a great deal of people that hate Oprah Winfrey, but that doesn't change the fact that they know who she is and what she is...

- Keyser Soze - 07-23-2003

this list is relevant to pansies.
