There are like 8 different wireless networks available from my house, but I want to lock into my own.

Is there a way to lock into just my network? The machine is running Windows XP SP2.

do you have a password?

Well, like, I have a wireless router, and the wireless card in my computer on the same channel, and it uses an encryption passkey to keep the connection secure. Now, I have like two neighbors who are also wireless, but run nonencrypted, so I could get onto them whenever. They were both on channel 6, so I'm on another channel.

sure

Okay, I have about 300 feet of cat5 in my apartment and have no reason to go wireless, so I don't know shit about it. But whenever I've been asked similar questions, I always suggest creating a workgroup/domain. No clue whether or not it would work with wireless, but it sounds good and makes sense to me..

Use a network key and change the channel that your network is on. 6 is the default on most routers.

Last time I saw so many scuzzi infested people, I was at a Phish show.

- The Jays - 01-23-2005

whats kinds of phish did you see?

- Keyser Soze - 01-23-2005

the way i fixed it was to remove all but my network from "preferred networks"

Keysers way works...but you gotta make sure you don't let your comp log onto any of those other networks ever. Otherwise it'll sometimes automatically join up on those.
