By the way, I'm me no matter where I am. Is it really possible to be anyone else?

It is absolutely possible to be someone else, especially online. You can be anyone you want. You can be an outgoing person online even if you are shy IRL. You can be an abusive asshole, when you are really the nicest person in the world.

I think the bottom line is that you are not restricted by physical appearance or your speaking voice. It is very easy to be larger than life online.

I'm not saying that we should all be completely fake. Only that we don't have to be completely real either.

Well, I can see why that article would be correct, Kid. I don't lie on-line because I think that it's pointless. The truth always comes out anyway. The only difference is that I am quite a bit shy when meeting people in real life. On-line it's different, and my shyness dissaperars.

As a matter of fact, if anything, I usually reveal too much truth on-line, which can also get a girl in trouble!

Couldn't agree with that more. I am a bit shy when I meet people, but once I get to know them for more than just an acquaitance then I have no problem opening up to that person. As far as on-line, everyone has "internet muscles", it's a matter of whether or not they appear in person, like Joey's big biceps.

Thanks to NJPANTHER for the sig pic!
All the times that I felt like this won't end was for you. And I taste what I could never have it's from you. All the times that I've tried, my intentions, full of pride but I waste more time than anyone. All the times that I've cried, all this wasted, it's all inside. And I feel all this pain stuffed it down it's back again. And I lie here in bed all alone, I can't mend but I feel tomorrow will be OK.

Nice thread.

Anytime someone is given the ability to present themselves in any way they wish, without being challenged/checked out physically, they will make a choice.
They can completely change their personality presentation, they may wish fulfill, or they may become Little Alex from Clockwork ;). (I only WISH...)
It's all good as long as we're..we're all just having fun....right?

Anyone from the board who's met me knows I'm the same online as in real life. That's just the only way I can be-and it works for me. Anyone on here can be whoever they want-the posts, the Sigpics, the jokes, it's a great time.

The main thing I've always observed, in all like situations, is that almost every time you meet someone in person, personally or in business, no matter how nasty they may have been one the phone/online/in writing/etc., they invariably are more pleasant in person. Is this a way to keep most humans from killing each other? Perhaps an instinctual act of self-preservation?
I believe it's the Golden Rule (you all know it, I won't repeat it). When most people look someone in the face they want to get along, because they want to be treated decently. Just makes for a more pleasant life in general...IMHO

As do I...As do I...

As for sigpics, I think that they are quite a but decieving. Now, I may be talking like I have the mentality of an 8-year-old but when I look at people's sig pics, that gives me a clue as to how they think of themselves (usually)...sometimes even how they look.

Hell, I'll even show you what I mean by working it on myself. Ok, my sig pic is pretty much sensual, not overtly sexually agressive, not agressive at all, really! And it describes me well. Now I know this all sounds like a bunch of psycho-babble, but maybe someone gets my point...
