If you lived in Providence you would understand why everyone listens to Boston radio. RI radio just plain out Blows. Opie and Ant are finally back and I got my W0W sign on the car as fast I as could. Now for all you ladies from RI area that are tuning in to Op Op and AK Ak, when you see a WOW sign don't beep horn and wave, or point to the sign, Lift up your shirts and let the puppies fly! This is a pretty easy concept, and myself and every guy in RI would appreciate your cooperation. Thank You.

Very useful considering the large number of Rhode Island women who come here.

Do they not have sarcasm in R.I.? If not, and you plan on posting on this board, get familiar with the concept.

Talk about a dated nickname.

This is a real Bahstin (well, RI) fan all right. I don't know if those nicknames have EVER been heard in NYC.

Well, I gotta give this guy props for being old school, word,... but stupid post. Hey, pal, you think a chick's gonna hear about WOW from you, here on the board. If they hear about it, its from O&A, and it's completely explained every Wed.

You know, it's really starting to piss me off how fucking obnoxious some of you are to the newbies. You're giving this board a bad name. Every newbies you dislike and abuse is one less person to click on banner ads and fund this site AND another member of wackbag...so knock it the fuck off.

Bear in mind as well that there are also two very important individuals reading this message board who are making value judgements on our ability to handle the influx of new users and treat them with cordial respect. I'm already seeing the tide starting to turn in a direction I'm sure none of you would really like.

Just be NICE. If they deserve it, they deserve it, but this guy is just showing his love for the show and for boobs, and for fuck's sake isn't that what it's all about?

Sorry Jeff - but I don't agree with you at all on this. The majority of members here are O&A fans and occasionally there will be the 'troublemakers' who come here and start SHIT. You think these people come here to 'click' on a banner?...HELL NO !!! RESPECT is earned, not freely thrown around. I'm not gonna lay down and let some idiot come in a make us look like pussies. If the 2 very important individuals see that we can't police/defend ourselves - then we might as well close up shop and go home.

What the hell are you talking about? Read this guy's post? How is he attacking you? Read the majority of the posts. You're making value judgements on fellow O&A fans. That's not cool. It happens all over this board. Some newbie posts something incongruent with standard board practice and he gets handed his hat. Nobody's asking you to "lay down" either. Treat the assholes as they should be treated. But this guy didn't do anything wrong..and I can point out a dozen other newbie posts where they are treated the same way.

well, the only problem i'm seeing with this post is, if the ladies don't know what wow is, then they probably haven't heard the show. and if they haven't heard the show, well, what the fuck are they doing on this board???

and as far as newbie bashing goes, it's a tough call. a lot of people hear that the newbies get bashed, so when they sign up, they expect it, and thus then, take any attempt to be helpful as an attack. basically we're just screwed, we just have to figure out how to distinguish between the assholes and the idiots...

it seems like a feeding frenzy...even newbies jump on the bandwagon of bashing their own kind without even earning the right to bash...i've seen people with 5 posts making fun of other people...using the tool pics...

Jeff - As Vinny The Racist says "You know what I'm talkin' about" ;)

I have no problems with new people, I wait and see how they conduct themselves. SO WHAT...if they make a mistake, but if they don't learn from it then there will be a problem. I don't think ANYONE besides a moderator or adminstrator should determine if someone should be adopted or not. Not all people need or want to be adopted. Sometimes people want to get under skin, and by replying you are playing their game. Ignore them (silent game) and let them die.

Now nothing said to this newbie should have gotten a go F yourslef answer or insulting other members.
As for your question "Newbie" is a mindset -- not a time or post count. Follow the rules make topical posts and don't be an Ass-F and you can be considered a "non-Newbie" with only a handful of posts, the best advise that one can give is "THINK BEFORE YOU POST!"

It's weird. With the old newbie influx of December (or so), it used to be a dogpile of tooling on the newbie, regardless of what he said.

Now the board has gone supposedly nicey-nice, and it's become a dogpile of telling the newbie to get adopted, regardless of what he said.

Umm, can anyone tell me what the difference really is?

Great post Jeff. .The whole situation is a tough call. The show is now syndicated and as we all know, it is extremely interactive. Many might catch part of the show and want to learn more about it. Other than just listening, logic would dictate they'd ask questions and get involved. I was under the impression that Matty got this thing up and running for just that purpose: get people involved and interacting via a messageboard.

Well the time has come where entire markets are being exposed to the show every couple of weeks. At the current rate, we could assume that the majority of the posters on this board 2-3 years from now WON'T be the originals or more importantly, WON'T be from the NY area. It seems that discouraging people from getting involved isn't a smart thing to do. These are people that can spread the word about OandA wherever they are from...or going. I can't even count how many times I've seen a newbie post a question via a new topic only to get torn a new A, or even worse the "SEEK ADOPTION" post. Either way, most of the time it's just someone asking a simple question. Someone who might be able to not only contribute to the board but also to the show. One of these newbies might even be the type of person who down the road, comes up with some kind of idea like the WOW summit. But if they are practically being booed into oblivion, they might not speak up too often or be willing to contribute to the board, OR to the show via WHIL.

On this side, I think the whole "adoption" process is a joke. There will always be a need to keep the HOOHOOHOO asses out. That uprising seems almost non-existent compared to 2 years ago when it was probably at it's worst. It seems that for the newbie fans, some checking in from new markets where there are few board members from, it might be easier to just post a link at the top of the page , like "New to the board? Check in here". There doesn't have to be any mention of rules, just the same info that gets regurgitated by the adopters.

Then there is the other side that leads me to think that despite how anyone else might personally feel about the issue, it's still Matts board. Has it grown into something bigger than that? Sure. But it's his. And what he says or wants is how it will be. People can speak up, but the decisions still are up to him.

(stepping off soapbox and back in line)

Psycho - you can have all the links you want. You can have it in huge flashing letters, and people will still pass right by it, and go to General Discussion. It's the nature of the beast. People want to go get involved right away. They don't read the FAQ, they wouldn't click your link, they'd go get on the board ASAP.

Saying that the adoptions are a joke, is a joke. It actually does some good. If you haven't noticed, there really are a lot more regular posters than ever before. Things are better than before. They could be even better, but that would be hard to accomplish.

See, newbies shouldn't be guilted into adoption. That's what happens. A lot of times, in the adoption thread, you see "I'm a tool, someone adopt me before I get worse" or something along those lines. Right there you've got someone who will probably leave the board - they've been put into a bad mindset because they've been told to get adopted so many times....

That's why I say that telling someone to "seek adoption" after one post is JUST AS BAD as tooling on them.

Yeah, it's called "FAQ". Since almost every website on the internet has one, people should know what it's for.

Adoption is about more than just "How do I make the my text green?" or "How to I post a sig pic?" It's also about "Why did I get flamed when I posted that?" and "Why didn't that post get any response?" Instead of stumbling around blindly learning everything the hard way (like most of the vets did), the newbies can have someone to ask questions and offer advice. Better to learn from someone elses mistakes than make them yourself.

Also, I have to agree. Crying "Please get adopted" on EVERY SINGLE newbies first post has become an annoying knee-jerk reaction. (One I may have been guilty of a couple of times.) Personally, I try only to do it when I see a dumb post, like this, and be as polite as possible about it.

By the way Jeff, I don't know how long you were lerking before you signed up and started coming here, but the bashing was a LOT worse even a few months ago. Things are really civilized now.

Oh MAN.

November and December were CRAZY. I pretty much avoided General Discussion altogether until the nicey-niceness developed. Before that, you couldn't find a useful post in GD - and even the useful ones had 10 replies by members with join dates within the last week ripping on the first guy.

DUMB POST??? Who are you to judge what is considered a 'dumb' post? RIMick is a fan of the show and that is good enough for me. Not everyone can come up with an 'original' thought to start a new thread. Save your 'tooling' for the people that deserve it...the people that come here just to stir up trouble...and we already have identified who they are.
