This tragedy REALLY didn't hit home until today.

As I was walking home after picking up the Sunday papers - up in the distance I saw a vehicle. It was coming down my street with it's lights flashing, but no sirens blaring. As it came closer, I could see that it was a FDNY tow truck. It was towing a firetruck that was one of the first to arrive at the scene. The front cab was CRUSHED and the rest of the vehicle was coated in cement dust. I stood and said a prayer as it watched it disappear in the distance.

I know I will NEVER to able visualize the total devastation, because as I keep watching the coverage, it all seems unreal. I keep hoping that I'm living some BAD dream. People who don't know the WTC have no idea the magnitude how enormous the complex and surrounding area is.

THANK YOU - KEEP THE FAITH

MPH,
That's the Truck from Ladder Co. #1. It was sitting as a memorial for a while. The crew didn't make it.

It didn't matter which FDNY company it came from - just the sight of it was heart-wrenching.

On a another note - just wanted to send my condolences to the NYPD, FDNY, EMT, PA and other rescue crews for their loses. One story that tears at my heart is the one regarding FDNY chaplin Fr. Mychal Judge. Here was a man, loved by all in the fraterity of firefighters. On Tuesday, he died (when debris fell on him) while administering last rites to a fallen firefighter (who was killed by a women who had either fallen or jumped from one of the towers). In spite of the danger that was surrounding him - he felt it necessary to continue doing his 'job'.

In these coming day, weeks, months - stories will start to emerge of the sacrifices people made while trying to help their fellow Americans.

BTW - THANKS to the person who added the USA under my status.
