Today wasn't as bad as yesterday but... the inner workings of radio politics is quickly becoming a tired topic. Thoughts?

I thought that was great. Just imaging other stations DJ's listening to the station yelling, SHUT UP.

It's great because O&A don't attempt to hide all of that stuff from an audience they know is a lot more intelligent than most people in the radio industry believe. This is a major reason I love O&A and D&M. Love or hate either of them, they make every attempt to be honest with their listeners.

Being involved with radio I love it...They say everything that jocks across the country would love to yell at their PD's. Thank God for O an A letting out all the BS that goes on in the radio business.

Got this from the NYRMB. A guy brought up the fact that O&A were playing the Carol Miller tapes and she responded to him with this. She seems very cool with the boys now.

quote:

Yeesh..... Just when I thought it was safe to go back and read the NYRMB....So Tyler, "bitter' is the wrong word. Confused, pissed off, and then O.K. was more like it. I don't know which part of the fight O&A were playing today, but I bet it wasn't the part where I went to the Duane Reade and brought in a box of "twin enemas" with their names on it! For the record, lemme say that it was actually at first just a set-up by the program director, gone bad. The P.D.wanted me to go in the studio and argue with them about why they were dissing the music. Unbeknownst to me, no-one told O&A, so they thought I was just butting in on their show without being invited. No wonder they were angry at me. After this was resolved we ended up on good terms. It took a few weeks to work it out, because the P.D. forbade us from talking, and just to make sure we didn't cross paths, he made me wait in the mail room before going on the air! Opie wrote a nice post about me here on the NYRMB, after the thing blew over. In retrospect, it has to be pretty funny, since O&A are still there to get the last laugh, and I got canned along with the rest of the sardines. I personally like those guys, and wish them the best on their success.

I thought the tapes were great.

I remmeber people not from Boston getting bored/annoyed with all the talk and history about AAF insiders, battles with BCN/Nik Carter, and pranks on the mayor when syndication in Boston began becuase they felt like it was all an inside joke that they were missing.

But these tapes are pretty much the same thing, and I think they're great.

Keep them coming. I just wish they would play the Tom Lykis (sp?) battles that I've heard so much about. O and A wars are the best part of their show. They should make it mandatory that they attempt to ruin someone's career each and every show.

I enjoy it, especially because I used to listen to WNEW when it was the "Rock of NY," I always like to hear about what happens behind the scenes.

Actually, I think that these discussions of "insider radio" appeal to the masses on a different level.

How many of us are in the radio business? Not many! But how many of us have had dickhead bosses who don't understand how to deal with employees or run a business?

You're in a fantastic minority if you can't identify with this stuff.

I find it riveting radio, and it's even better knowing that they triumphed over it. It was cool to hear Anthony get "Kreskin" on everyone's ass and predict their success.

I think most people like that stuff.

parkerx,

I like this stuff.
yeah, I used to listen to WNEW way back when, and remember Carol Miller (as well as Scottso, etc.)and the "Rocktobers", "Two for Tuesdays", etc, but the inner workings should appeal to anyone; Most of this shit goes on everywhere.

Again, it is that O&A are real. They have no problem bring up dirty laundry, or exposing the stupidity that goes on.

It never hurts to learn what makes the radio industry work, parkerx.

I know that a lot of you can't relate to some of this, but let me tell you from personal experience that for the most part, DJ's are the fakest people around. Some people just walk around feeling they have to be "on" all the time and it makes me laugh when their scams are exposed.
When I make announcements at my shows or an event, I try to talk like I'm talking to a friend across the room, I don't put on this fake DJ announcer voice so I can impress everyone.
I think this is part of the reason why when you tell somebody you're a DJ they smirk at you because they know how full of shit most DJ's are. It's people like that that makes me hate this business....
