O&A Board Veteran Registered: Feb. 01	You may have noticed that Ratings Diaries & Arbitron Ratings Threads have been getting deleted around here over the past day & a half. This is by special request from the guys, the only reason they were allowed up to begin with was that we were not aware that they could be detrimental to the show. Please do not post any more ratings discussions. I believe in the Faith... that can save me. I believe in the hope and I pray... That someday it may raise me... above these badlands

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jul. 00	Arbitron the company likes to sue (or threaten to sue) anyone who gives out actual numbers (why subscribe to their service when you can get the numbers off a message board?). It also likes to do the same to Radio Hosts who do the same. Maybe that has something to do with all this. Or not.

Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70	When I first read this, I made an assumption as to why they might frown upon this. My only conclusion would be that they feel that if the ratings are posted publicly, the next book may be unjustly swayed by personal alliances. In other words, if you get people that have Arbitron books, being influenced by outside factors, they may be dishonest as to who should recieve their vote. That's my take anyway. O&A Board Regular Registered: Nov. 00	Don't know if Arbitron works similar to Neilson Ratings, but: Nielson families are interviewed and have to be approved. Nielson families are kept confidential and the families are not allowed to advertise the fact that they are Nielson families. (Other relatives and friends are OK, but don't make it public knoledge.) If Nielson finds out a Nielson Family has been contacted by anyone associated with a TV show, that family is removed as a Nielson Family. So, it would be a bad thing if a lot of Nielson Families went to a message board for their favorite show and said they made sure to watch that show every week and keep it's ratings up because all those Nielson Fans might be removed and replaced with Nielson Families that DON"T like the show. Just a thought.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01	I think Kid Afrika hit it on the head. I know that radio broadcasters are not supposed to discuss how arbitron gets its data, how to fill out forms, who arbitron families are, etc. Actual data gets printed in newspapers to a degree; overall data is available online.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jul. 00	Back in the day, they would post the entire lists and breakdowns on the NYRMB. Then they stopped posting anything. Now, Sniffen posts it like a news article...and he waited till 2 or 3 days after. I think he's trying to dance around the laws.

Psychopath Registered: Nov. 00	Arbitron is a shit-twister anyway. If they want an accurate system, they should do what the Nielsens do. Otherwise, it's hard to gauge ratings for things like Sporting events. Plus, we wouldn't have to wait months to find out. Psychopath Registered: Jan. 01	Arbitron allows people to post the 12+ #'s for a station, thats what Sniffen does, however Arbitron doesn't allow any breakdowns of timeslots or demographics (age groups, etc). Those #'s use to be on the NYRMB but about a year or go or so Arbitron threatened to sue Sniffen about those #'s
