| Hanger-On Registered: Oct. 01 | I blame management for this. The boys were going to take the show on the road to DC, but management felt they should lay off of the road trips. I think the DC listeners may have gotten a little jealous or deterred by this and stopped listening. Or I could just be looking too deep into the situation. | Psychopath Registered: Aug. 00 | Well, I am a syndication underground listener from Richmond, VA, and have volunteered for FoundryMusic since mid-January. When I heard that O&A might be coming to DC, I emailed Rick telling him that I thought it would be better for the guys to visit once they had a strong following in the city like they had in Philadelphia. By the time he responded, he said that they would postpone their trip for a while, but I was surprised when O&A said they took such a huge hit. O&A listeners knew that it would take some time to build a formative audience in DC, and it appears that it will take longer than usual. I'm a native NYer, and can't wait for the Dec. 14 OA.com gathering, but I also hope that when O&A make the trip to D.C., they will have a welcome like they did in Pennsylvania. But I do hope those listeners in our nations capitol get their heads out of their butts and realize what a good radio show they have in the afternoon drive. "That's what we're paid for, boys. | O&A Board Veteran Registered: Sep. 00 | Don and Mike were THE afternoon guys in Washington and other small markets for many, many years. But Washignton was their big one and they were really popular and liked and people seem to think that because we're huge O&A fans and dislike Doon and mike everyone would. that's not true, Don and Mike had a huge fan base and many Washingtonians were pissed that their 'boys' were moved to a different timeslot so they refuse to listen to O&A just in principal. Given the popularity in both fanbases of the AFRO (and ARF) shows, might it not be a good idea for there to be a few impromptu ODAM (or DOMA) shows when D&M are in NYC? Theoretically, you give O&A a boost in DC, and D&M a bit of help with their NY ratings. Also, hearing them together might ease the anger of the DC listeners who could give O&A a chance. | O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | There's one huge thing to remember in all of this. The D&M crowd and the O&A crowd are COMPLETELY different. D&M may think they're going after the same demographic, but come on, be serious here. O&A appeal to a much younger crowd than D&M. Also, sure I'll get into the hillbilly factor - D&M provide a lot of retarded humor (most of which is just NOT funny) and the hicks eat it up. O&A sometimes require brain use to listen to, which can be too much for the poor people. You'll notice that many of the DC callers have the southern accent and the kind of intelligence that can only be compared to receiving a blank stare. Look at it this way - suppose WNEW were to move O&A to the R&F slot, and get rid of R&F totally (hypothetical, of course). In the O&A slot they put 2 new "up and coming" guys - would we listen? Maybe, but probably not - just because we are loyal O&A fans. Thats the situation in DC. D&M made their show #1 there and held that reign - O&A have a lot of promo work to do there to get the D&M fans over to our side. Whether they want to stick with D&M in whatever slot they're on in DC is up to them. We'll get the ratings, but I think we need a road show or something that directly gets O&A a lot of exposure to the DC market - and NOT in a way of saying "hi - we replaced golden boys D&M, so give us a try". They need to make their own name there, and I'm confident they will - its just going to take that one funny bit to win over a bunch of hardcore fans, and the rest will come naturally - like it did in NY. Infinity has made the commitment to keep the boys on here, and while I do want to see them do well, I'm happy as long as their on. Whether or not you love, hate, or could care less about D&M, you have to give them credit for doing what they did in this market. In a city that is dominated in the overall ratings by urban stations like WPGC and WKYS, D&M brought in consistant #1 ratings. I know O&A will do it too, but it will take some time. I've been listening to O&A since the day they went on here, and I know there are a lot of people out there that have done the same. I was extremely disappointed when they cancelled the road show, but I'm hoping they can get down here soon. Email Me UNITY | ||||

But at first a lot of the loyal new york listeners were getting on Don and Mike websites and bashing the shit out of the fans who were trying to listen. My point is that O and A fans ruined thier ratings in DC. Plus it doesnt help when they get on air and make hillbilly remarks. Are there rednecks in Virginia? Yes. Does the O and A show reach them? Some yes most no. The show is primarily heard in Northern Va, DC, and Maryland. In these areas it is mostly white(except for DC-where it is politicians)middles to upper class. I have been listening since day one and I think the guys are funny as hell. Especially when Ant goes on one of his rants. But back to my first point, They will get the numbers back because i have noticed that there is less bashing and bickering going on. Its the same story different place. You dont like it when people come here and bash O and A and people in DC area dont like it when others go there and bash them, in turn O and A went from 1 to 11. Call it petty or what ever but the numbers dont lie.  Just add water I'll either get hard or my lunch will get wet I have been adopted by hornygoatweed. Please foward complaints to him.
