Well, imagine that, a thread discussing the fucking show itself! Do wonders never cease?

Here's my observation: I think the show's getting MORE GOODER than it was the second half of 2001.

Will it ever be as good as those halcyon days, you know the "pre-'Syndication Now!'" days? Maybe not because there now seem to be too many lawyers and censors and large-nosed whiners interfering in things to even allow us to hear the show that Opie and Anthony really want to put out there.

Have you noticed a change though, however subtle or gradual, in the quality of the show? Are the commercials shorter? Do they actually seem to do a little bit more SHOW now?

From the time of syndication in June until really the end of the year it was bad enough having 15 minute blocks of commercials, but when those were preceded by 10 to 20 minute "classic bits" it certainly got me wondering how much new material I was hearing.

Doesn't it seem like they're doing fewer of the old bits now?

I can't even put my finger on it, entirely. It just seems like a better show than it was. I think they're taking syndication in stride now, Philly's "getting" the show, Cleveland's "getting" the show, etc.

Thoughts?

Nice to see you Spork, thought you left us.
Even tried to pull you into the open with an FU Spork thread.

I have been disappointed with the show as of late. But time and familiarity make it hard to sound fresh. I think 9\11 broke the stride they were hitting and they are working on getting the rhythem back.

Vomit shows are not the way to do it. In my book anyway.

i don't think the show itself has gotten better, but it's only been a month. Like many i've ended up only half listening to it. I don't know, it's like something's missing. I listen to it daily but not as enthusiastically.

Maybe the time I was spending away from the board was allowing me to enjoy the show more? (shrug)

I'm always of two minds on this. I've almost just given up hope that the show can be as good as it was pre-syndication. It was just such a different level of interaction with the listeners, as many have pointed out.

Holding contests? That's just not really the way to go about recapturing that interaction in most of the "super fans'" estimation I guess.

Remember things like the Limo Anthony & Stalker Patty show or the Gay Marco show? Holy shit, THAT was some interaction!

The show makes my commute go better though, it still has the power to do that. It entertains me. And Opie and especially Anthony are still a couple of talented fucks.

The biggest cringe radio factor on Friday's show was listening to Carter try and be funny. Total buzzkill.

There's no pure formula to the show's success, there never has been. There's no bottle of O&A formulaic success that will work, guaranteed every time.

I just hope that listeners and those with the direct involvement in the show recognize that themselves.

I always think there's a lot of pressure going on behind the scenes... I always get this sense that people are trying to make a science out of something that just worked without too much explaination. Remember the days when it was O&A who were getting hauled off to the office and not Scott Ferrall?

And what do you do if you're O&A? What would you think of this criticism? If it were me I'd be torn between "Fuck you, I'm in 22 cities or markets or whatever we're calling them this week, I'm having a blast and screw you all you freakish superfans!" and "Uhhhhh, ohhh. This can't necessarily be such a good observation to see."

I'm really sad to hear that people are tiring of the show though. I can only hope that won't happen to me. Thank God I hate rock blocks ;)

They are spending way too much time on the naughtie nightie contest. listening to them talk about how hot some chick is over and over again is boring. There are a million talk shows out there doing T & A, O and A are better then that.

silent game had another reason why the show is sort of lame in 2k2, most of 2k2 has been with the Naughty Nighty Contest and it gets tiresome as I"ve stated before.

as far as P/A & Gay MArco that was pre-syndication

Yup, I know, but I was basically agreeing with you guys to a degree that it is THAT sort of interaction that those of us who heard the show pre-syndication are missing.

I think syndication has put too much pressure on them. They feel the need now to always be funny FOR EVERY MARKET.When that's impossible to do. If only they would get back to focusing on the TRI-STATE area listeners. If they would do that I feel they would be able to entertain more people than just us, THE CORE listeners. But I still love them.

That was so painful to listen to, and not in a good or funny way.

I never really listened to the show until they got syndicated because I live in Philly. I had heard some of there stuff one Goofball.com, but didn't even know it was them until I started listening to the show a lot. Now, I can definatley say that I thought the show was great since day one in Philly, but has definatley gotten better in 2002. It just seems funnier. I mean it has really got to be a hard transition to go into a bunch of different markets. I mean, who hasen't fucked up a few times when you got a little more resposibiltiy at work? There is definatley an army buliding down here and Philly and trust me, people down here hate everything new. Give it time and let them get the hang of it. Once they get a little bigger, then they can take care of the lawyers.

ok, well i'm from dc so i don't have much say / compare regarding pre-synd.

but i must say, i find myself glued to the radio at work and on the way home alot more often than pre-o&a in dc days.

the bits, while not entirely original (NN, chowder bowl) - are at least entertaining... can't say that about a majority of radio programs out there

boobies are always more gooder.

NV do you mean better than when they started post -syndication or better as a whole because it's most certainly not as good as the early days

I mean since post-syndication it has gotten better. I have never heard any of the earlier shows so I can't really speak for that, but I definatley think that the show is better now than in June 2001 when I started listening.

Well, I'm in Cleveland so I've only been listening to the show (not even the entire show because I work until 5) for a couple of months. All I know is that I wanted to puke listening on my way home Friday, but, IMO, they were successful in what they were trying to accomplish. Yeah, not my idea of a great radio show, but I did have to keep listening because I had to know, and maybe hear, people puking clam chowder for a pair of superbowl tickets, and then...ewww.

I think that if their show really has changed, it's only a matter of time before they get adjusted and things start going back to normal. Change is stressful...takes a bit out of you...

Well, I think in a way the listeners of the syndicated cities probably have a better perspective on this than those of the original 'NEW listeners do.

My whole point at the beginning was not to argue that the show is better now than it was pre-syndication. I wish it would be, but maybe we'll always miss that old world charm of the freeform show.

My point was that it seems to me (aside from way too many wacky contests) that the show itself IS getting better when you compare it to the early days of syndication. It's starting to be more like a show and less like a catch-up fest for new cities.

I think that at least things are leaning in a positive direction... more than they were anyway.
