| Hanger-On Registered: Mar. 02  | It's possible. One must remember that when a vehicle stops, it experiences what is known as 'nose-dive.' The front of the vehicle drops as braking occurs, and the rear end lifts. With SUV's, this is more pronounced - they stand taller, and also have more travel in their suspension. Thusly, have a further nose-dive - they also have more weight in general, resulting in higher rear-end lift and harder nose-dive characteristics. These two combined factors result in BOTH the seat rising, AND the dashboard DROPPING - putting them more level in terms of relative height. Now, think about the bag - it's not on a greased surface, so it's not just sliding straight forward and landing on the floor like the young lady suggested when she called in. The thing's probably heavy, so the bottom of the bag has traction - from friction - on the seat, causing the weight (the objects on the inside) to shift forward... but the bag is staying - the difference gives the bag roll. Even if the bag hits the very edge of the dashboard moving more straightforward than up, it might still have the rotational leverage and/or momentum to grip/bounce up onto the dashboard. All this is physics-oriented stuff - a course I never even took in high-school. It's all in how you look at the situation. | Psychopath Registered: Feb. 02 | but also the physics is kinda off when it comes to that becouse take the velocity then look at the speed of the car if the speed is up the chance of a body to go the same way it was going up.the law of gravity in with a object goes one way and it can only be stoped by an outside force. by when a car turns right you go left becouse your body wants to go that way becouse of the momentum and if there is more momentum the more freirce the as you call it "nose-dive"(sorry i am 13 i dont drive) ocurs. You also have too add in the grease so the story adds up if she was going fast enought.Aeryn is also right about the friction but a dashboard isent that long but that little amount still makes a huge diffrence.
