| O&A Board Veteran Registered: Oct. 00 | You know, I sometimes listen to the D&M show. I get sick of music stations and the same CD's at work day after day gets boring. My first choice in their timeslot is WNYC, yes that's right, public radio. They have some interesting stuff and I sometimes get some good insight as to new movies, plays, exhibits...etc., etc. When they have a total snooze-fest going on, I switch to WNEW. These two guys just don’t speak to me. And contrary to what they are saying today, I’m not in high school, and I should probably be able to relate to these guys. However, I can’t. I just don’t find these guys funny. They don’t have a grasp on what is funny today. I could site many examples, but they generally just don’t relate to what amuses me. | Hanger-On Registered: Aug. 01 | I like both shows. I'm originally a D&M fan from D.C., and now O&A have grown on me. I wasn't into it at first, but I find myself listening more and more lately. To be fair, Don's quote was very supportive of O&A in D.C. The better they do in D.C., the more money WJFK makes, and the more money he'll make. Sure, D&M wanted to be on live at 3 p.m. in New York. But it was decided that O&A should stick it out at 3, and D&M would move timeslots. You can say it's because they suck, or because 'the company knows O&A are the future' or whatever other reasons you have to validate why you don't like them. But is it possible that it made sense that O&A and their 'brand of humor' probably would be best in mornings (not an option because Stern's a dickbag), or afternoons. D&M have had success in mornings and afternoons in D.C., and thought they could give middays a shot. Were they disappointed not to be on at 3 p.m. in New York. Probably, but they're happier to be on live, regardless of what time that happens. D&M did say that lead-ins were not the reason O&A's ratings dropped. If whoever was on before D&M on WNEW had shitty ratings, O&A still did well. What they are saying today is that lead-ins help shows ratings get bigger. If you're a fan of O&A, you're going to tune it at 3 regardless of what the lead in is. Right? But if you don't know the 7 p.m. show, but listen because of O&A's lead-in, then O&A's high ratings help the 7 p.m. show succeed. That's how lead-ins help. Because of Stern and the inability to have much of a show on against him on WNEW, D&M have little lead-in. But that lead-in isn't going to make their ratings drop - D&M fans will tune in at 11. It just doesn't help them gain new listeners. Ideally, the WNEW team would support each other's shows, have cross-show appearances (like R&F on O&A). But let's face it, that's never going to happen, and D&M realized that when they talked about 'the team'. If everyone at WNEW (D&M included) stopped the bickering, in-fighting, bad mouthing, etc., and just let everyone do their show, it would benefit the station as a whole, and each show individually. | ||||

But having that happen with D&M isn't going to happen, and doesn't have to. And nobody has to even like D&M and they don't have to like any of the other shows. Those that want to work together do, and those that don't just let the others go on their own without saying a word. I know someone will say that Don should have not been commenting on O&A's situation to the Post. But he is the PD, and it is his job to comment on the station's ratings.
