Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing about the archives without seeing the contract. Hopefully, their representation had enough foresight to put that in the deal. From what I remember when Letterman moved from NBC to CBS he lost all his stuff. I seem to remember CNBC showing Letterman reruns after he moved, and him having a bit early on CBS where Tom Brokenjaw came out and took some files and said something like "Sorry Dave, this is the intellectual property of NBC"

We have to remember that Infinity, like most corporations, is evil. So my guess is that the archives is the only thing that would make them consider sticking with Infinity.

Hey Anthony, would you like to make a deal on some Furbys for your girlfriends.

Also, remember that when Letterman left, there was a lot of bitterness between himself and NBC (and their parent company GE) because he was turned down for the "Tonight Show"-- NBC probably brought up the "intellectual property" crap solely to screw him over. Maybe if the boys leave WNEW and Infinity on semi-decent terms (that is, no bad-mouthing either of them for the last two months of their contracts), then they might be able to take their archives with them.

Honestly, it's a crapshoot. From what we've seen of Mel Karmazin, he has a take-no-prisoners attitude concerning business (and rightly so). It wouldn't surprise me, if the boys do jump ship, that Karmazin decides to screw them over by holding on to their old material.

Well said. But there is no way this is not going to get ugly. Don't for one second think that Douchebag Howie isn't going to influence Infinity. He has serious psychological problems based on his ego and insecurities, but he is a master of doing what is necessary for his show to succeed. The smart money is on the Jackie thing having nothing to do with contract negotiations. Dave Chappelle has been on twice in the last week, including the whole show today. So today was actually entertaining, but this is going to become a trend with Howie. He needs help and he knows it, watch for different comedians hanging out for extended appearances.

The way Infinity is going to handle O & A will be a combo of whatever would help the Stern show and what would make Stern happy.

I agree, and yet I also disagree. Yes, Stern is the biggest breadwinner working for Infinity, so of course they'll want to keep him happy. But at the same time he is not the only breadwinner working for that company. Infinity, simply put, has the best situation possible right now: they have the #1 market's two prime airtime slots wrapped up tighter than Stalker Patty's pink (gray?) lettuce.

OK, Stern always says he is nicey-nice and buddy-buddy with Karmazin, but take that with a grain of salt. For Karmazin, the profit margins are the bottom line, and unless Stern plans to start up an afternoon show again in addition to his morning show, he really can't have that much influence on Infinity's final decision concerning O&A... after all, if that were true, why would he have even let Imus stay on the air at an Infinity station? He would have asked Karmazin to get rid of him simply because he doesn't like him, even though Imus isn't even a ratings threat.

The reason why Imus is left alone is because he doesn't get any ratings. The ratings he still has left aren't going anywhere, and have probably already made the decision to not listen to Stern. Besides, Imus has been with Infinity since Christ was a kid, maybe the are a little loyal to him.

O&A should just start making personal archives of their shows this way at least they have them, even if they can't use them. And don't think Stern wouldn't love to burn them in that respect. Remeber he's been fighting for his WWOR show for years. And if you all remember the WWOR show is just about the last time he was funny on the Radio.

They do have a personal archive... it's called FoundryMusic.com. :-)

Seriously, though, going back to what Skeet said about Imus: yeah, he gets no ratings, but Stern still hates him from when they were at WNBC-- I figured he would have had Imus canned just out of spite. As far as "loyalty" is concerned, I question just how much loyalty Karmazin will continue to have for a tired old fart who has no pull in the key demographics...

Stern may not want O & A to leave Infinity. He may be a pain in the ass & suck, but he isn't that stupi. If O & A leave Infinity they cold go to mornings, and get syndicated (especially since they would most likley go to the other major company Clear Channel). Having any kind of competition is the last thing Stern wants.

Slappy, somewhere around here on the Board is a great thread explaining exactly why the boys will not go to morning drive if they can help it. I mean, if the opportunity arose, obviously who are they to say no, but I'd wager they would actually prefer to stay in afternoon airtime.

I not saying they would go to mornings if they left Infinity, but it would be a possibility, if they stay with Infinity mornings won't happen. I think the O & A contract situation and the uncertanity about them resigning with Infinity has Stern bugging because he knows someone else will snatch them up with a possibility of mornings

I somehow remember O&A saying something about Howard having a "no competition" clause in his contract for mornings. Plus, O&A aren't stupid, and I can't believe it's gotten this much thought. Why ruin a good thing?????:)

yeah, I guess they don't really count as competition even if they were the same "genre" of talk radio.

This is only valid for "Infinity" owned stations.
Of course, Stern would want them to stay. FYI-money talks, bullshit walks. If mornings are offered at Q104, O&A are there ! more gooder radio ...

If the BOYS did make the move to Q 104 they would have a new rock n roll vault to destroy. Who knows since it is a music station, of sorts (yeah classic rock), maybe they could swindle some of todays rock bands to swing by the show for a chat. Of course the guys would have to bring their own CD's for modern rock, but they wouldn't have the Bullshit of Infiniti holding them back anymore.
