For all that went to action park, that was a great story. He was wrong about one thing though, that 360 degree loop slide did open one summer. It was the sickest thing ever. The reason they had to close it, was that people would panick (understadidly so) and lift there heads. This would cause severe whip-lash as they reached the bottom of the slide and start ther loop. FUCKING SICK. But I loved that place.

I shucked it, and I shucked it, and I shucked it, i'm quite the mother shucker!

Dude.. I got so messed up on that Damn Alpine Slide! I of course took the Expert track.. pulled the stick WAY back which engaged the set of wheels rather then just sliding on the plastic tracks.. and ZOOMED down that hill. Long story short.. here comes a curve.. there went the sled.. and I kept going.. luckily I was on a section of the track that was fiber glass.. you see.. there were concrete sections and fiber glass sections.. I was on a nice SMOOOOOOTH fiber glass one. By the time I realized I was on FIRE and had no more skin I picked up my sled.. my bro goes WHIZZING past me.. and I limp super slow on the sled down to the bottom.

I went there a few times as a kid. Why I went more than once is beyond me. I remember one time with my family, I think it was like '81 or '82. Out of 15 of us, 10 went home bleeding, limping, or both. My aunt broke her leg. I had road rash from the Alpine Slide right up the side of my leg. It was the last day of a huge two week family vacation. Good God, I'm gonna have nightmares tonight. The sceaming and crying. That place was a death trap.

And we used to call it "Agony Park"

I've been there a few times. Here's a decent story. First off I'm 6'6 300+ lbs. WHat does that mean? Well it means I can't do shit at action park. I was able to lie my way onto many of the rides. Looking back its sounds like suicide. For any of you that have been there, if you go up behind the wavepool there are speed slides. The weight limit is 225. At the time I was 325. I tried to get on there once before but the cut me. But I did go there once and the guy working the ride was a friends room mate from college so he let me right through. Well big mistake, for those that have seen this ride they know it is a straight run with bumps or hills. Welp, I hit the second hill and was fucking airborne until the water at the end meant to stop you. Instead, I landed there backwards and got a nasty ass concussion. That place is insane.

There is a place in Vermont- Bromley, or something close to that- that has different levels of Alpine tracks. What's awesome is they have a kind of kart you find in Europe, land of fewer lawsuits, that doesn't ride a track. They are low set fat wheeled freestyle karts that, yes, they have brakes, but why you'd want to blow a crazy ride with a brake is beyond me! You go flying down the slope- completely blinded by speed, dust, bugs that get embedded deep in your eyes. I've rolled the karts and gone flying into the woods thinking I was on course- they are so fun! It sounds as if this would have been a great addition to this Meca you called Action Park. I still can't believe I missed it.

How in the hell does that place stay open. does anyone remember the air slide. That little 2 foot slide with a 20 foot drop that thing was awsome. You'd play that great game. "hit your friend that's attempting to swim away from the landing are"

Whackbag,

Thanks for posting the article I missed the show yesterday and would have missed the whole thing.

I too am a casualty of Action Park while reading the article I couldn't help but laugh at how well the author depicted the park. I remember the whiplash from the cannonball and of course the raw flesh from the Alpine Slide. Ohhh the memories what I wouldn't do for a season pass.

When I came across this story I was shocked when I saw the 360 degree loop story. I only went there once but I got the picture. It was kinda fun though watching the little kids in the wave pool. One minute they are standing there with their parents, the next, GONE. Thats all from me, O & A rule.

I must be one of the luckiest SOB's around. I went to Action PArk DOZENS of times and NEVER got injured. But I used to stand on line and talk with the teenager running the ride about all the horror stories about the people who would do stupid shit and get hurt. If you followed directions, MOST of the rides were safe. If you were too stupid to listen to the directions, you got hurt. It was the first park dedicated to THINNING THE HERD. I loved it.

Makes you wonder what insurance company would insure a park that has a lawsuit every other day. Somebody probably made a lot of money from one day at Action Park.
