Instead of worrying about the contracts, just think about what you are gonna do once the first shots are fired.

The brass at CBS/Infinity are hypocrites. They are quick to give O & A a hard time, but are quick to "let it slide" with Stern, because he made a lot more money for the company.

3 more shows... hope they are good.

What's the worst that can happen if they upset Stern???He quits??? It's not like they couldn't slide O&A in the same time slot over the infinity network. They would make just as much money, if not more with O&A.

Be prepared for a "sudden" resolution to all of this on Thursday. Why would they say they are going to be syndicated to Boston no matter what if some part of this hasn't already been settled? They've already said they are not going out of NY.

Also, whether we like it or not, Howard rules the roost. He makes the most money for the company and by virtue of his contract and his high ratings can call the shots. I'm not saying it is right but it is the way it is.

I'd be very surprised if the boys go to mornings, on any station. They will probably stay where they are.

Personally, I think they would be happier and more successful over at clearchannel. I just joined up with clearchannel. There is a LOT more room to breathe and do things and to an extent, they're not as strict as Infinity. Plus i'm sure they would love to snatch up O&A in a heart beat!

Even though I am cringing at the thought of this summer without O&A on the air.I still nevertheless want the boys to get the best possible contract they can get. The boys deserve the best. They are the best thing at WNEW and yet they still get treated like the retarded step-child. I am so fucken sick of our boys getting treated like shit. I hope they do go to another station where the gloves will come off and where they will be appreiated more then at WNEW. WNEW is the WORST station in the city if not in the whole country. Good luck boys.

I second that emotion. The idea of an O&A-less summer makes me want to PUKE, but whatever it may take to further their careers, I'm with it.
Nice parody on that sigpic, Sexbagel!

The down time during the summer will be the worst thing about O n'A leaving Infinity. When they find a new home they will DEFINATELY drop the curtain covering all of WNEW's fuck-ups and scandals. The summer will suck, but Opie and Anthony will win in the end.

I want them to get the best possible contract too and would be quite pissed if we had to go through the whole summer without them. I doubt it will come to that though. Thursday will tell the story.

Not only quits, but sues, and causes a general headache for Inifnity that would probably cost more than Stern's contract was ever worth.

You've got to remember - we may be devoted to O&A, but get realistic. O&A are LOCAL RADIO. One station, serving the New York City Metro area. Stern's show is a multi-million dollar machine. He's got tons of advertising, and that spans the whole country. What, over 200 stations? Every one of those is a cash cow.

Infinity is trying not to piss off their cash cow. O&A aren't raking in the dough, and though they COULD, that would mean taking a chance with two unproven guys and pissing off a proven guy. From a corporate standpoint, I guess it makes sense to keep Stern happy - and if that means keep O&A down, so be it.

That's why so many people think the CC move is a good idea.

Thats a great point, one that I am sure they are thinking about. Maybe its time to let the old dog go to pasture, and bring in the new dogs to rule. Stern just signed a 5 year deal, so maybe thats it for him.

OK, what you just said is a major contradiction.

You don't sign a baseball player to long-term, high salary contract if you are going to sit him on the bench in favor of an unproven player (I am tempted to use the term rookie, but I won't). You have that player that you are paying the big bucks to go out there every day and win like you pay him for.
They won't put Howard out to pasture...a la Imus, hence the reason it makes so much sense to put O&A on the same station as Howard, and sell the two dayparts as a package (it's called compatible programing).
But once again, this has already been said ad nauseum.

Stay at Infinity, do afternoons
Go somewhere else, do mornings

FollowThisLogic and Doc Smith, both of you make great points. It would make great sense to put Howard and O&A on the same network and sell them as a package. But I doubt very much that will happen, because if it was going to happen, the boys would still not be trashing K-Rock as they have been.

I will stick to my guns and say that come Thursday, the boys will announce some sort of resolution, stay exactly where they are, be syndicated to Boston and perhaps have some sort of say as to other hosts on the station. The gag order on Stern will stay because as you guys said, you don't piss off your cash cow.

I hope you're right, man.
I know there's no way the Boyz can win out over Stern anytime soon, due to his huge (formerly deserved) popularity. If they stay w/Infinity, the best they can hope for is more $ and a new contract. But hey, they're doing awfully well, even within the confines of that org....aren't they? I only hope that they eventually win the respect they so richly deserve.

Okay... umm, how do you figure?

Rome wasn't built in a day. Hell, Stern wasn't built in a day. It took him a good while to overtake Imus, and it'll probably take O&A a while to take Stern.

Let's ponder a hypothetical future scenario, shall we?

Say O&A are head-to-head with Stern in the mornings. Let's also say that they're at completely different companies, so there's no gag order, no bullshit. Just good clean war.

There's a reason Stern put a gag order on the boys. So they couldn't attack him. If they can't attack him, he has no need to retaliate. So why would he want to pussy out if he thinks he's so allmighty-powerful?

Because he remembers what happened with Imus, that's why.

An all-out war means that both radio shows will slam each other. A lot. O&A bash Stern, Stern bashes back. And while O&A listeners are probably already O&A devotees, and know the entire story, Stern fans may not know. So how will they find out? They'll tune into O&A to see what they're bashing him for.

Then, just like it happened for EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US, they'll hear a funny bit that hooks 'em. They'll start to realize that these guys are a bit more edgy.... more fun to listen to than Stern.... so more and more will tune in to O&A, leaving less and less for Stern. Then word spreads.... more people in more markets that don't have O&A yet will want it so THEY can hear who Stern's having a war with too....

As I said.... think I'm crazy? Think it won't work? Hey, it won't be instant, but that's how it'll happen. Why do you think people started tuning out Imus to tune in Stern? War.

FollowThisLogic, you hit the nail on the head.

I think that would be the best thing for O&A, but not the best way i'd like to listen to them. I prefer afternoons as its the most time i'd have to listen to them. I don't get to listen as much from 6-8 as i'm getting ready for work and shit. In the afternoons the radio has almost all my attention while I work from 3-7.

I think the most likely scenario is gonna be Q104.3 in afternoons. I really hope they do not re-sign with Infinity but I have this sneaking suspicion that theres a slight chance they might. They would really have some explaining to do though since they love to bitch about Infinity and all the grief and censorship of the program it brings along with it.

2-1 Odds on Q104.3 Afternoons, a summer without O&A
4-1 Odds on WNEW Re-sign with contract stipulations.

Rumor has it, I may have been banned, if its true, its been nice to know you all. I've truly enjoyed many of the people here and the lively discussion that goes on. If I ever pissed you off, it was all in good fun, don't take it personally. Hopefully I'll get picked up on a new station. ;) Adios amigos.

When our boys came to New York I remember them saying they were courted by WXRK also. Howard Stern, if he wasn't just thinking about himself all the time, could have made himself look like a genius if the boys were hired for afternoons at K-Rock. Howard instead would have been able to use them in his own way, mold them for his own using. He could have and should have used the boys as his retirement replacements. Walking away on top of his game. Hell, he could have milked it for 10 years. Instead it looks as though Howard put on too long of a leash for our boys and they smell his imminent demise. To bad Howard you could of had it all at the end.

Well the one good thing if the boys did leave for "summer vacation" is at least we have the Internet and this BBS and other sites devoted to O&A to keep us informed of when and where they call their new home.

Doc, I agree with you, but what I meant there is that Stern is on the way down, and I so agree with what both you and Logic said regarding the gag order. He will keep the boys down as long as he can and is on the radio, even if they stay here, who knows if the gag order will be lifted, and why would they want to be here when they cant truly say what they want.

I love it when they talk about the negotiations also, but if they all of a sudden come up with this miraculous contract I'm gonna be upset. They called Stern a fake for doing it and if they are doing it to us I'll be pissed.
