This is the address for our new gnutella host
cache server.

How it works is simple - add it to your list of
autoconnect hosts in your gnutella program
(ie limewire, bearshare, not the hazelnut
chocolate spread). Remove your other
autoconnect hosts (ie router.limewire.com,
etc)

What this will do is register you on the host
when you sign on, and unregister you when
you sign off. Also it feeds your client the IP
addresses of other people online so that you
connect to OA.commers mainly. This will
allow distributed file sharing of any o&a
related and non related files (video, mp3,
whatever)

How do you know if its working? check your
hosts tab when you sign on. ona.ath.cx:1027
should show up. then it should disappear and
be replaced with some IP addresses
(depending how many people are online)

now you can search for anything you want,
including entire shows!

The recommended client is limewire. It is
made for any platform imaginable (linux,
Windows, Mac, Solaris, you name it) it will
automatically download the file from as many
hosts as possible to speed up the download
and even out bandwidth.

If you have questions, email me.

This server is completely legit. It just passes
IP addresses around. There is no need to
hide its address. BUT the more people that
are on it without show-related material being
shared, the harder it will be to search for
shows.

HOST: ona.ath.cx
PORT: 1027

Note - the server's IP address changes. note
the name, not the IP. Also the port is required
because it is different from the normal
gnutella port to keep other hosts off it.

i haven't tried it yet, but limewire usually displays ip #'s. I think that is the only way to tell who is on.

I enter ona.ath.cx:1027 as my only auto connected host. It says its trying and then says 'Timeout'. Is this normal?

I just logged on M-ace, so it is up bro.

Im using 2 proggies, currently i have Karrazasasza (morpheus) as my main MP3 searcher, but i installed Limewire and dedicating that to O&A.

I removed all other servers in Limewire, such as:

router:limewire.com:6346
connect1.gnutellanet.com:6346
connect2.gnutellanet.com:6346
connect3.gnutellanet.com:6346
connect4.gnutellanet.com:6346
connect5.gnutellanet.com:6346

and added:

ona.ath.cx:1027

so that it is the only server Limewire connects to. Once it connects to that (It does quickly for me) it then links to the individual hosts that are also connected to the server.

Im not on it yet, but once i finish updating my shows, and transfering them to the new HD, i will be up on Johnslack's server 100% of the time.

Ill let everyone know when im up and running.

I'm using Bearshare... I'll give Limewire a try. I could be the firewall I'm behind.

if anyone cares, I'm connected as well, through limewire. If you have trouble getting limewire to connect, AOL IM me at RhinoDog419. I should be around most of this morning and afternoon.

OK - I'm hooked up and running. I think it's working, but who can really tell? Anyway, I have many files to share, but I think we all need to look hard at the file names and try to keep the names fairly search friendly. Further, should we generally post whole shows by date? We should try to come up with a universal naming system so everyone can search. I have shared only the files that have understandable names (is that even a word?!?) As I go through my older files I will continue to add them. Cheers to JohnSlack, Lent, and everyone that's been working on this. You guys are doing a great job.

We should have files that say [oa.com] or something like that to easily ID things.
Other than that. great things, great things.

I tried a search with oa.com and way too much stuff came up. I don't think that'll work. Unless my settings are off - Having this as your only connection still allows many other things to come up - whether pictures, bands, songs, whatever - there's still a lot to filter through. And searching Opie Anthony only brings up the normal stuff (arnold pranks, songs, etc) - no full shows or anything.

All my file names are like this:

O&A Month-Day-Year.mp3
example: O&A 03-27-02.mp3

This was just how Mulligan had his orginzied, and frankly it works realy well.

In cases where a show is recorded in more than 1 part:

O&A month-day-year Part 1.mp3
example: O&A 03-27-02 Part 1.mp3
example: O&A 03-27-02 Part 2.mp3

This way you can search for general O&A, or you can search for a certain show you liked by its date.

Also for those recording the shows, taken from previous posts, record them in 24kbps. They sound great and a whole show is rougly 40 meg (=/- a couple of megs).

Hurm - when you look a your connections tab, after ona.ath.cx:1027 dissappears, should it be replaced by IP's that end in 1027? I get a few but they are quickly replaced with IP's that end in 6346 or 6347 - I've removed all other auto connects but this still happens. WHat am I doing wrong?!?!?!?!

Griz:

Go into your prefrences or options screen where it shows you what servers it quick connects to:

For example Limewire:

Under the Tools ==> Options screen.
the "Connections" section only has the ona.ath.cx:1027 server (where their used to be a series of gnutella servers)

But in the main screen, under the Connections tab, that shows the hosts (Other ppl connected to the server.)

In order to help ppl find out if its working for them, Ill quickly copy one of my cds on to my harddrive here at work and connect.

Search for O&A and if you see a series of file types like the ones listed in my above post, your in.

If anyone needs help, feel free to email me.

-- Side Note: PLEASE only share O&A related stuff ... i see alot of other files such as Dashboard Confessinal CD and misc comedians. Makes it alot easier to search IMO.

Yeah - it seems like there's WAY too much non O&A stuff coming up - I don't know if that's b/c the search doesn't limit to the ona.ath.cx:1027 or people just have other stuff in their shared files.

Here is the problem - your computer 'listens' on a certain port for gnutella hosts - if there isn't a full list of them on ona.ath.cx (mine is set to connect to 6 hosts, so for me atleast six) it will look for anyone else - so you might get hooked to someone else who isn't o&a related, and they aren't hooked to someone o&A related, and so on and so on..
Basically gnutella is like an internet pyramid scheme - without the money. and with files. and its good not bad. Oh wait its nothing like a pyramid scheme, nevermind.

Right now I'm working on forced IPs on the list (ones that are always on it)

EDIT: RIGHT NOW THE SERVER IS DOWN. I HAD TO TAKE IT DOWN FOR SOME MAINTAINANCE. i WILL UPDATE THIS THREAD WHEN IT IS BACK UP.

If this idea doesn't work well, why not try setting up an IRC room where we can all share. Just an idea
