oh.. one thing.. if your ip says your on a cable modem in ny and you are not relaying it.. we will boot you.. why?

1. Your on a cable modem... Start up a relay and listen to your local stream
2. Your home... Listen to the radio

This will reserve spots for listeners that cannot stream and out of state people... IF you need to run a relay goto shoutcast.com and get the server...

Hey wise man -- I am desperately trying to listen at work (in CA) but getting screwed by my firewall...

At least I think so -- could this relay thing solve my problems? I went to shoutcast.com but no luck. Any advice? PLEASE help me! I'm at amyp@ecompany.com. HELP!

i can set up a stream on port 8080
firewalls dont block that port normally..
when using that link look for the port 8080 on one of the relays ... if it does not work i can make it 80

check it out today and if you cant connect ill make it 80 tomorow

GREAT THANKS! I checked it just now (11:00 am NY time) and it was still showing up as 8000, right? (And saying "could not connect". I tried editing the address to 8080 but same deal.) Anyway, I'll keep checking today and let you know what happens -- THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!

AMY,

I'm behind a Firewall and have no problems connecting. What are you using for a Client. I have found success with Both Winamp and Windows Media Player 7+. When I config winamp I have the following settings.

Winamp

Under Preferences --> Setup --> Internet Settings I select Use Lan Internet Connection and For the HTTP Proxy I Have The Fully Qualified Domain Name for the Proxy Server (FQDN)then a colon 80 it should look like this firewall.company.com:80 If you don't know what your Proxy Server you can look this up in IE.

Windows Media Player

You should have to do nothing for this because the Player uses the setting in Internet Explorer if you browswer uses a firewall to get out the media player uses those setting.

How do I find my Proxy Server

IE 5/5.5

From IE go to Tools --> Internet Options --> Select the Internet Connections Tab --> Select Lan Seetings --> Under the Proxy Server Section you should see the Address and then the port. This is the info you use in Winamp.

Hope this helps If not let us know

Great job of setting up another stream. I haven't listened to a show with shoutcast.com since July of last year. My compliments.

Okay, first of all you guys are the greatest!!! Thanks for all the advice!

I usually try Winamp first, then Real Player and then Windows Media Player. No luck with any of them.

I'd heard about the whole proxy server thing but when I try to find it, there's no address and the "automatically detect" is checked. (Bastards!)

BUT -- I thought there was another way to find it, does anyone know? I heard you could trace your connections to a website and see that... I don't know enough so I'm sure I'm not making sense, but if anyone has any other advice, SPEAK UP!

Anyway, thanks again so much!!! Any other advice, feel free to e-mail me at amyp@ecompany.com.

On some proxy's you can sometimes tell by looking at the status bar on the bottom of the web browser.
When you hit enter it'll say something like
proxy.ecompany.com:8080 and then quickly say Web site found. That's what you need to know to enter.

If it doesn't say that.. then you're hosed.. unless you can get cozy with the firewall administrator to open up the IPS and ports to your machine internally. :-)

Hey av8er -- thanks!!! By "Cisco" is that what I think of as "ciscoopa"? That didn't work here either, but he was VERY cool about trying to help me out...

Anyway, the whole proxy server thing seems to be working for now so keep your fingers crossed!!!
