About a month and a half ago, I posted that the doctors thought my mother-in-law had bone cancer, well after doing more tests, they found out officially what it was. They say it is cancer of the glands or adenocarcenoma (sp).

I have no idea how bad this is. Is it life threatening. Is there a chance of recovery. Does anyone know about this disease? Does anyone know someone who has this disease. My wife is extremely upset thinking her mother is going to die soon. I just wanted to get as much info as possible on it.

Montgomery Burns, thank you for the valuable insite you fucking tool! What's next? don't run with scissors?

Anyhow... sorry to hear that Teen. I don't know anything about that type, although I can tell you I can relate to the feeling of the unknown when it comes to the big 'c'. Regards to you and your family, and do your best to help your wife keep her chin up to be strong for her mother. Consult with a doctor, and I will offer you the same advice that I am trying to follow watching my own mother who was recently diagnosed with cancer... All you can do is wait, and hope for the best. Neither of you could have prevented this, so the best you can do is roll with the punches. Ask the doctor all the questions you can think of, and make sure you understand what he is saying. Medical mumbo jumbo can be confusing, so it's important you guys know what's going on.. it's in your wife's mother's best interest. Consider all options, read up on the disease, find out all you can, and offer your support the best you can. That's all you can do.. sometimes it feels like it's a futile effort, but I assure you, it helps.

I hope everything turns out ok.

Cluster, thank you very much. This was really nice. She has more tests tomorrow to see how serious it actually is but she will have to get a tumor removed that is currently in her back.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. Do you know what stage her cancer is in? My mother had stage 2 cancer because it had spread into her lymph nodes. Mom is in remission after surgery, chemo, and radiation.

A good place to start is this book: 50 Essential Things to Do When the Doctor Says It's Cancer by Greg Anderson.

Thoughts and Prayers to you and your family.

Thanks. Hopefully they will find what stage tomorrow. How curable is stage 2 because from the research I did that might be the stage she is at? So your mother is doing better than? Any insite would be appreciated as my wife is extremely upset now.

quote:

cancer of the glands or adenocarcenoma

Teen, adenocarcinoma can arise from almost every organ in the body. Do they have any idea what the primary (original organ site) is??? This is one of the first things that is needed in order to get any sense of how serious this is or what treatments are available. Hopefully, between the biopsy and CAT/MRI scans, they can determine this. So don't get too far ahead of yourself with research, as you may get the wrong picture of the situation and cause unnecessary suffering for your family.

Then, once a diagnosis is given, get a referral to the best Oncologist(Cancer Doc) in the area. The NY area has a number (including Sloan-Kettering).

Also, make sure that you understand the diagnosis. Ask questions-ALOT of them. Don't worry about looking dumb; if you don't understand something, make them explain it in simple enough terms until you do

So, no matter how hard it is, just hold tight and wait for more info. You can E-Mail me if you need help.

And ClusterF, same goes for you.

Teen....very sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. My heart goes out to your family. You might want to look on the internet for support groups or message groups about this kind of cancer. My uncle's girlfriend is dealing with breast cancer now and has found a lot of useful information as well as support on these boards.

why do I say I'm fine when it's obvious I'm not?
why's it so hard to tell you what I want?
why can't you just read my mind?

so far, thankfully i've never had to deal with anything like this but my heart goes out to you and your family. i'm pretty sure sites like webmd.com and such have support groups as fmfb said. and as everyone else has said ask as many questions as you can, and know that you have your own little support group here, i'm sure we're all hoping and praying for the best. i don't really have much to say to help you feel better, other than good luck.

Thanks everybody. She has more tests today so hopefully I will find out more. My wife e-mailed Sloan Kettering and we may buy that book you were talking about.

It really is true, it does not really bother you until it hits close to home.

She is starting radiation hopefully sometime this week to remove the tumor in her back. Right now they don't know where it started or how how much it has spread yet.

She has an appointment at Sloan Kettering in about 3 weeks and Dr. she is going to buy that book. Thanks everybody. I hope everyone who knows someone who is going through with this, prays for them because they need it to get through this hell.

Teen....My prayers for a speedy recovery are with you and yours. All you can do is be there for your wife and let her know that no matter what, she IS the most IMPORTANT person in your life, and what affects her, affects you. Here's hoping your mother-in-law is cancer free in the very near future.....and that disease of any kind, affects all people!!!!
