A big FU to a dog's short lifespan.

Whle my parents watch over her now, it always hurts to visit my parents and see my childhood pet dog aging.

::Flash on screen clips of dog and myself playing in fields when I was younger etc.::

Now shes constantly sleeping, we think she's losing some of her hearing.

Ugh, FU time.

fez, i know how you feel.when i was 3, my parents got me and my brother a cute little lhasa apso.she was around me all the time, wether i was playing GI Joe in the family room, video games in the basement, or just wandering in the backyard.a few years ago, she stared to sleep a lot more, didnt notice us telling her to come, and wouldnt do what we told her as much anymore.then we noticed a lump on her neck a year and half ago, took her to the doctor.cancer, throat and lungs(we think it was caused by the eletric fence collar we used to keep her in the yard), and we put her to sleep about a year ago.
these last few months should be cherished.whenever your home, spend a good ammount of time with the dog, get some last memories in.i'm glad i did

i may be a little catholic boy, but i'm still HLJC 4 LIFE!

I hear you, Fez. I'm going through the same thing, only not with my dog. (He's only 6, so I'm a few years away from that. *EDIT* I hope!) I am privileged enough to be watching this happen to my Grandma. Ant's right - getting old blows!
FUCK YOU, AGING PROCESS!!!
Fuck you for sucking the life out of loved ones and making us watch it.

Unfortunately I know all too well how it goes. When my younger dog died of cancer in the spring, it couldn't have come at a worse time. He outlived the vet's predictions by almost a year, but you could see the deterioration and the change. It was one of the saddest days of my life, he died only hours after I left home.

My German Shepard died two years ago and I have been reluctant to get any pet since. The worst part of a dogs death is everytime you hear any dogs' barks soon after its death you get that very brief hope that it may actually be old Spike, or Max, or Rocky, or whatever your pets name might be, but it's not, and it friggin hurts.

I want to clarify my post. Fez, I hope that no one thinks I was belittling your post about your dog by equating it to my situation with my grandmother, because that was not my intention at all. My dog is just as much a member of my family and just as loved as any of my human relatives are (boy, that sounds silly, but it is the most concise way to put it). I know that it will be just as hard to help my dog through the sucky aging process as it is my Grandma.
Enjoy whatever time you have left your dog. She's probably been there for some of the most significant moments in your life, and although it's sooooo hard to watch her deteriorate, cherish whatever moments you have left with her. She deserves it and so do you. Peace!

It's a rough thing, watching your childhood friend grow old before you do. Last year, we had to put our sheltie (17 years old) down after a stroke left him completely paralyzed. A few months ago, our cockapoo, who only just realized she wasn't a puppy anymore around her 15th birthday, passed away peacefully in my stepmother's arms. Whenever I go over for a visit it's strange not seeing one dog outside and the other one running up to the door, barking her head off regardless of who was coming in.

Hey Fez,
Sorry to hear about your dog. It's a tough time as a number of people have mentioned.

In fact, for me it sucked so much that I got into Parrots instead of dogs. They're easier to move around with (no "NO BIRD" places), don't require as much care, they're very good companions, & THEY LIVE 60-80 YEARS!!!

I held my dog's paw when we put him to sleep last summer(insert fagget joke here). It's rough but a dog will give ya better memories and more love than a human ever could.

I'm so sorry to hear that Fez, I understand how you feel. It's hard to see things like that take place. Its so hard to watch life come and go, but yet its always there. FBD is right, spend some time with your dog.

I'm slowly watching my grandmother go... it's one of the worst pains to see... watching the rock that supports your family structure... slowly die.

I just want it to be over, but I don't want her to go.

I don't know why, but that brought a tear to my eye. I lost my cockatiel, Angel in December after spending close to ten grand trying to make him better. He died one day before I would have had him for ten years and now all I have left are his ashes which I keep in my room. Sadly, we didn't know he was sick until after the illness had already begun to run it's course and he couldn't be saved.... :( Fez...be grateful that you are getting to watch your pet grow older, just make sure you take your dog for regular check ups etc. Eventhough she's sleepy I hope you enjoy your dog for years to come...

why do I say I'm fine when it's obvious I'm not?
why's it so hard to tell you what I want?
why can't you just read my mind?

My dog has had a tumor in his head for about a year. Put him on this medication and the fuckin' medicine is working ughhh Now I just want to rip out his intestines with a sickle cause he wont stop panting.

For now,I will just continue using my Super Soaker 2000 water gun on him. I just hope he doesn't force me to put bleach in it LOL

I totally feel your pain Fez and everyone else who has lost a pet. I've had to put two of mine to sleep in the past 8 years and it wasn't easy.
The first was my German Sheppard puppy. She was the first and only dog I've ever had. I had her for a couple of months and then one day while she was out in the backyard she somehow hurt herself and was having difficulty walking. It didn't look too bad at first so I didn't call the vet right away. The next afternoon while walking her she kept going really slow and kept sitting down. I got annoyed and yanked on her chain to get her up and she fell over and got dragged on the ground. To this day, 8 years later, that image still haunts my mind and brings me to tears. I never have been able to forgive myself for pulling that hard on her chain. I knew she had to be brought in so I took her to the vet and they found that she had fractured her hips while out playing the day before. They said they could fix her, but German Sheppards have a history of weak hips and she would never be the same. That and it could possibly happen again in the future. One of the hardest thing I ever had to do was that day when I told the vet I'd rather have her put to sleep than to watch her suffer. Even harder than that was when they brought her out and I looked in to her pain filled eyes and said goodbye to my baby for the last time.
My second pet was a stray cat the Mrs. and I brought in to our home. We had him for close to 5 yrs. when he started to lose his appetite and was losing weight. We brought him in to be checked and originally the vet didn't find anything wrong, but put him on steroids to increase his appetite. That worked great for a week or two, but eventually he was back where he started. We brought him back in to be checked again and another vet felt he had a huge tumor on his neck that the first vet didn't pick up. They took a biopsy and determined it to be cancer. As most cat owners know, when they are near death they try to hide away from everyone and that's what he began doing by staying down in the basement. We couldn't bear to watch him suffer anymore and decided it was time to let him go. We brought him in and stood there holding him as the vet injected him to put him to sleep.
Even though this has now happened to me two times, it's something you never get used to and always hurts. I know when the time comes to put my other two cats to sleep, I will be a mess once again.
Sorry this was so long, but the thread touched something in me and I had to share.

"What are you speaking, German Brian?"
