| Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70 | I used to have this problem all the time. The cable modem would just cut out for no apparent reason. We narrowed it down to a weak signal. The problem was the cable was split too many times before it got to the cable modem. If possible, try connecting your cable modem directly to and outlet without using a splitter. This may solve your problem. Also, try unplugging the cable modem for 15 seconds, then reconnecting it, to reset it. The problem may be outside of your house at the connection box as well. For that, you will need to wait for a tech to come out.

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | Thinking a little more about this problem, when you say that your cable is working are you talking about the TV cable? The modem has higher requirements, so your TV may be fine but you might not have a strong enough signal. More importantly, if you get power to the modem, but the lights are orange, you may just need to reset it. Don't ask me why it's necessary, but sometimes if you just unplug it for a couple of minutes and plug it in, the modem re-sets and works. Definitely worth a try. I know several people who have had this problem.  | ||||

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | Cablevisions service does indeed suck. I was having problems a few weeks ago with my service cutting out and a very slow connection. I call and they tell me someone will be by on friday between 1 and 4, this was a sunday, I was going to be away all week so no problem. Friday comes, no service guy comes, I call at 4:30, am told the guy is running late and will be by shortly. I call again at 6:30, they tell me the service call was cancelled, I ask why, service guy called at 3:00 before he was going to come over and no one answered the phone so he decided not to come. Well, whatever they get a guy to come next morning between 12 and 1, guy actually comes and checks a few things, turns out my signal was way to strong, they had to have a guy come during the week to fix it. I did get $20 off my cable bill for the missed service. Yay for me. | ||||

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Dec. 00 | I remember having this problem for a long time too when I got my cablevision modem. In my case, it was a weak signal, and Kid already explained that his reply. As for the software, i didnt even bother to install it. All i did was go to Control Panel>Internet Options>Connections>Options>Setup> then clicked "i want to setup my internet connection manually, or i want to connect through my Local Area Network (LAN)". It detected my cable modem automatically and i didnt even have to install the software. Try that, it might help. [Blatant Plug] Then go to this thread for tips on how to Hack your modem for better speeds. [/Blatant Plug]
