I couldn't even come up with a good title because I'm so pissed. I just got off the phone after getting the wonderful news that water was rushing into my basement from a busted hose. There's at least an inch of water on the ground. We have a rug in our laundry room so that's ruined, and not too long ago we put down new carpeting in the rest of the basement (which is a finished playroom for the kids) so that's shot. Woohoo. But worst of all, I was supposed to go out tonight, but now I have to go home to clean up the mess. FUCK, FUCK, FUCK. I know in the scheme of things this is nothing, but at the moment it's got me extremely pissed.

Think Happy Thoughts :):):) and this too shall pass.

Write To Me Here

I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories that about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?

but my quarter's gonna run out now
or so i'm told
i guess i'd better go sit down
and wait for you
till my coffee gets cold...

Wow, that sucks. I know what you're dealing with because the basement in my old house used to flood whenever it rained hard. Of course, my landlords never bothered to tell me that. Wet carpeting is the worst. Good luck cleaning it all up...a wet/dry vac really would help.

Cheer up, it could be much worse.

Hey, what's "out"? I've heard tell of such a thing, but it's been so long that I've forgotten. ;)

Well I got a wet vac, sucked up 4 buckets worth of water, lugged an 8-1/2x11 soaking wet rug up a flight of stairs, onto the deck and hung it on the railing, and spent another hour trying to dry the other carpet. Needless to say I didn't go out, but lucky you guys, now I'm here instead :)
Yes, things could be much worse, and like I said, in the scheme of things, this is nothing. *thinking happy thoughts*
Thanks for your support :) Oh, and SA, you need to get yourself a babysitter :)

Mylf, I am disappointed. This FU is far too short and does not contain near enough superfluous (as long as we were in the "S"s Slash) information. Who designed the home? What was the name of the last plumber who did work in the basement? What kind of Carpeting was it? What was the temperature of the water? This is the kind of information I need when reading a MYLF FU.

You use a letter size piece of carpet on your floor?

That's bizarre.

So what you are saying is that you keep your kids in the basement?

You guys have just validated my reasons for writing long FU's...if I don't give you all the details you infer things that aren't true...I live in North Jersey, it was a finished basement, it was an 8-1/2x11 FEET area rug, and yes, we try to keep the kids in the basement, oops, I mean, of course we don't try to keep the kids in the basement, but hey, all their toys are down there.

So Ken, was that long enough? :)
