Tussle, when you said you lost money, I am going to go out on a limb here and say that you must have gotten ripped off by a hooker at the point.

I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories that about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?

UPDATE!!!

Just got back to work from my house. Had to take lunch an hour early. The dude then showed up 1/2 late. Turns out something was fucked up on the pole and shit needed to be re-wired. It all works now.

Now, on to the ganking of my thread:

quote:

Nah, it's people like you that speed at 80 miles per hour, and risk a ticket, instead of doing a safe 65-70 to avoid a tickeet to save seconds to very very few minutes on the trip. Then you get a ticket that takes about 20 minutes to write up after a full cavity search, and then you bitch and complain.

Even if you get there without a ticket, you do nothing with the time that you have saved.

I just don't understand that logic

Actually, your comparison is WRONG. If you would have said:

"You're the person that takes an airline to Florida instead of driving there."

18 hours driving versus 4 hours in a jet. That is a more accurate analogy (however it still doesn't illustrate the vast difference in the speed. The difference is that I don't have to sit for a 1/2 hour just to download a 20 second video clip from FoundryMusic. I don't wait at all. Just watch the fucking clip.

Another reason is a static IP addy. Most ISP's assign IP's based on when you connect. Each time you disconnect and re-connect you get new IP. If you're trying to run a VPN from one location to another, a lack of static IP's makes the connection a little difficult.

Yet another reason is the friggen need for a phone line. Why pay 15 bucks a month for the phone line plus 15 bucks a month for the dial-up access. When for 10 bucks more a month, you can have a TON more dedicated bandwidth.

Portability? Set your computer up on a dsl or cable modem. Set your OS up so that you can allow dialup access to that computer via terminal services and BAM... portability.

I can't believe that there are actually people who argue over this shit.

You mean that you didn't HAVE to lose half your Juggs magazine collection due to a divorce?

You just handed it over? You truly are pathetic.

Buttmunch... the same thing happened to me... once a day i'd lose the connection so I'd have to reset. The contended that it wasn't the connection.... my last resort after trying everything was to do a 'safe' reinstall of windows. I haven't lost the connection since. I have no rhyme or reason as to why that solved it, but it apparently did. Sometimes wacky shit goes on in windows networking behind the scenes.. maybe something got corrupted... who knows. anyway.. just a suggestion. It worked for me.

i love my optimum online. i was in a hotel in new paltz last night and i had to use a dial up, i connected at 19200 kbps. i turned off all pics which it made almost bearable. i wish i would have known about that sooner.

lent, i believe they only make you pay if they have to fix something inside your house. everything before the connection to your house is their problem.

:rolleyes::):-D

No charge. As long as it is not a customer-related problem (read: DUMB FUCK RULE... if you had fucked it up and we have to come fix it they would charge you), and is a problem outside of the house or the wiring, pole. No carge for me. Tipped the guy with a 6-pack.
