Hour, Back

Damn I crack myself up sometimes. :)

Sorry, back to the topic:

Daylight Saving Time is also called "summer time". It is a method of advancing clocks in a global manner, in order to artificially expand the daylight hours. Clocks are set forward one hour in late March or in early April and are set back one hour in late September or in early October.
Although "daylight saving time" was mentioned by Benjamin Franklin in a humorous essay in 1784, the real credit for it has to be given to a little-remembered London builder, William Willett (1865-1915). As he was taking an early morning a ride through Petts Wood, near Croydon, Willett was struck by the fact that the blinds of nearby houses were closed, even though the Sun was fully risen.
In his pamphlet "The Waste of Daylight" he wrote:

"Everyone appreciates the long, light evenings. Everyone laments their shortage as Autumn approaches; and everyone has given utterance to regret that the clear, bright light of an early morning during Spring and Summer months is so seldom seen or used".

His campaign led to the introduction of British Summer Time in an Act of Parliament in 1916. Clocks were put one hour ahead of GMT during the Summer months. The energy saving benefits of this were recognized during World War II, when clocks were put two hours ahead of GMT during the Summer. This became known as Double Summer Time. During the war, clocks remained one hour ahead of GMT throughout the winter.
It was during the Big War (World War I) that daylight saving time was adopted by several countries. The reason was that the clocks were moved forward by an hour, thus saving fuel that would be necessary to produce light in the late hours of the day. It was during another war, World War II, that United States kept time one hour ahead of the default standard time (from February 9th, 1942 to September 30th, 1945). During that period no changes to the time were done during the summer months.
The Uniform Time Act , enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1966, established a system of uniform (within each time zone) daylight saving time throughout the U.S. and its possessions, exempting only those states in which the legislatures voted to keep the entire state on standard time.

Under legislation enacted in 1986, daylight saving time in the USA begins at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday of April and ends at 2 a.m. on the last Sunday of October.
In most of the countries of western Europe, including the countries that are members of the EEC, daylight saving time begins at 1 a.m. GMT on the last Sunday of March and ends at 1 a.m. GMT on the last Sunday of October
Daylight Saving Time - for the U.S. and its territories - is not observed in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the Eastern Time Zone portion of the State of Indiana, and by most of Arizona (with the exception of the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona).

In many other countries around the world, daylight saving time lasts from March 30th to October 26th.

i would like to extend an FU to daylight savings time as well... not cuz of losing that hour back, (hour back, get it?) but because of any and every household appliance that has a goddamn clock on it. Now I have to go through my house and fiddle with answering machines, vcrs, the microwave, the oven, watches, alarm clocks... in other words... all shit that I haven't set the time on for 6 months. The best part is that half of this shit doesn't even need a clock built into it to begin with. FU Technology!!!!!! At least my computer is considerate to set itself. Sonsabitches.

I'm done.

So now that Daylight Savings Time in in effect the Foundry IF program should correctly display when O&A are on the air and off the air. Right? RIGHT?

1. You can always move to Arizona or Hawaii where there is no DST.

2. There is now an hour more of daylight at night which R-O-C-K-S.

3. You didn't actually lose an hour. If they shifted the mile markers on Rte. 80 one mile to the east, would it take me longer to get to work? No. Mostly because I don't take Rte. 80 to get to work, but also because mile-markers, like time, are just a reference.

4. What's a lost hour when you sleep till noon everyday, VG? Hmmm...Hmmmm? Comment?
