O&A Board Veteran Registered: May. 00	Do you really think we should do a poster of the year category? It would innevitabley turn into a cluster-f of activity and the politicking for the vote would be too much for even us to handle. I guess one person can make a difference but most of the time they probably shouldn't.

O&A Board Veteran Registered: May. 00	How about a cross between the oscars and the people's choice awards. We narrow it down to the nominees and then vote for who we think the winners should be. Then we put it up to the board "en masse" for them to vote. Say 2-3 weeks of ballots. Voting should be done in the thread only. one vote per poster per category. That way, no ballot stuffing. Should be something simple like assiging a number to each category and then a letter to each choice, then each person's post after our initial category announcing post will just be like so a b d ...and so on. Then the thread gets locked, the votes get tallied up and then an official results thread gets posted with the posters choice and our choice in each category. We can even give a little explination as to why we picked that category a certain way. Or we can try the poll thing that gs mentioned, although my idea seems a little fairer as to eliminate ballot stuffing I guess one person can make a difference but most of the time they probably shouldn't.

That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories that about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?

O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00	If we were to do this, it should have been decided on and put up yesterday. it's a new year, and unless people had been able to vote on particulars, i think it's pointless to give it out now. just my take, at this point. the idea was good, but it should have been executed before the new year. Here's a tip that will save you alot of grief and time... Don't believe in and depend on anyone but yourself.

Pretty simple then answer to that then, don't participate in it. Since the year is now OFFICIALLY over, we can take the WHOLE YEAR into account. But if you don't like the idea of going forward with it now, don't worry about it I guess one person can make a difference but most of the time they probably shouldn't.
