You know how we're always thinking of nice ways to integrate those annoying, know~nothing newbies? Why don't we give em there own thread. There are mods who post here and rarely anywhere else, maybe cuz its a private forum? If newbies had a forum to be newbies in without fear of being bashed where they could ask whatever inane questions they have, couldn't that be productive? People who don't like to be bothered by newbies don't have to read or post there and its a way to get newbies integrated. They can begin their posting of new threads and have these threads discussed even if older board members have discussed the issues ad nauseum. It could be a playground where newbies are allowed to post new threads only while they post in answer to topics all they want.
If this idea doesn't help or isn't feasible (sp), maybe it'll trigger someone else's, more creative, brain into a good idea.

Hey Roger, stop acting like an annoying Newbie, and do a search.

Is it a thread or a forum you are asking about?

Either way, this was dicsussed in BTS, and the above thread "***New Member Welcome / Q & A***" was the result... a place to have newbies get acclimated and ask questions without fear of being bashed. I see it fell to page 2, so I will bring it back up top. You can feel free to bring it up top when it is slipping as well. I don't believe Froy was fond of a newbie forum. I also remember that being discussed some time ago in BTS as well.

I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories that about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?

I think the main problem with that is determining when people are no longer newbies. There are some here that have been lurking for a while, and understand this place after 20 posts. On the flip side, there are numerous people in the forums that have 1000+ posts and still dont "get it". Also, the newbies learn stuff by interecting with the Vets and mods, but how can they learn anything if they are sent off to their own devices? They can post a million plus questions in the newbie forum/thread, but if no mod or vet is there, they're questions will never get answered.

L33T LIEK JEFFK MOTHERBITCHES. I fucking hate everyone of you motherfuckers, so leave me the fuck alone and DIE. Jesus Christ, you fucking mongoloids disgust me. You're all living proof of why Abortions should be mandatory in some cases. We should Enslave the retards and use them to build our Utopia. After that, we'll just put a bullet in their mis-shapen skulls. Or throw them in ovens, whichever is cheaper.

Trust is a weakness, Betrayal is the hidden blade.

I can't do a search in BTS so I'm clear of that mistake!

Give em a time/post limit on being a newbie. If after that time/amount of posts they still don't get it, then let them be bashed. The point would be to see if they acclimate without being bashed for it. If they can't, let the bashing commence. I think it would be a good idea. Unfortunately Froy isn't here and I won't be back for a week to discuss it so I'll probably forget with my seive of a mind. Hopefully he'll remind me.

The problem with giving them their own forum is they won't stick to it. If you come on here you most of the time go to GD first then Off Topic. Who wants to post in a forum full of newbies? They will continue to post in other forums anyway.

Newbies have a thread in GD that froy usually starts, the welcome thread and most of them don't even post there. Unless you wanna start an a la questions thread in GD for newbies. But a forum for them is too wackbaggy.. err wacky.

I won't start a newbie forum. For one, it splits the traffic to the site which makes no sense. Also, there is no way to keep the newbies in there, and the old members out. When do we determine when they can post on the rest of the site? Plus it only teaches them to interact with newbies, not with the veteran membesr of the board, so they're no better off when they do emerge from their sanctuary.
