Edit: fuck it, GO HERE

I was talking to Froy about this last night...

The new design is almost done. I think we all (or as many of us as we can get) should get together in an AIM chat, and get Gooch into it as well (as he is doing a lot for the design). We can show you our little test page for the new design, and it'd be good to get your input on it.

I think the hope is to roll it out by Monday.

I know you guys sometimes have those things called "lives" or go to that place known as "out of the house"... so I guess post here as to whether you'll be participating in this odd "having a social life" behavior.

I'm thinking maybe 8 or 9 tonight.
Talked to Gooch... it'll be around 7.

Click here if you're bored enough to email me.

I don't know what I'll be doing tonight.

I haven't received my marching orders yet.

If I'm home, I'll join the chat. Otherwise I'll probably be here.

I think it all started with the Declaration of Independence -- the idea that we had the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit is what took America from the revolution to the computer age in 200 years. But the progress has come at a price. The obvious being the people that were exploited to make it possible; the not so obvious being us, the first group of people that were given no obvious frontiers to conquer. We hear stories that about the good old days that don't seem to apply anymore. It's a generation gap that leaves us without role models. But the bright side is that without role models, there are no roles. Maybe that's what the 60s were all about -- getting rid of the roles. But what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, what do we replace them with? Without any guidance, the choices become overwhelming. Sometimes it just makes everything feel hopeless. So we destroy our bodies in the search of an ideal. Try to salvage relationships that don't work. We feel we must do something, instead of doing something that we feel. It is the prison of self-imposed momentum, and the sad part is that we get used to it. It reminds me of a song I heard the other day. It's called "The Going Nowhere Fast." But the people I have met here have shown me another side of Nowhere. They've pointed out the beautiful irony that stagnation makes it easy to stop and smell the roses, if we just let it. What would we be if we had nothing to rebel against? Well we could finally be ourselves, the first group of people who stopped looking for the answers long enough to appreciate the questions. And all we have to do is to make our own Declaration of Independence. We can embrace the right to life and liberty by simply realizing that happiness exists -- not to pursue, but to accept. After that the only challenge would be to make sure with the rest of our lives that we weren't just another fad. I don't know, it's an idea. What do you think?

Okay well... since we want to roll this out Sunday night, I'll put the link up here...

This page has links to 4 color test pages.

Also, the main banner is not permanent, Froy is going to run a contest but for now we're using the one on these pages. I'm curious as to what you guys think of it.

Oh, and the current plan is to go with Test 1 or 2, yellow links.

I have to be honest, I don't like the black backgrounds at all. It's too overdone (as in too many sites allready go with black backgrounds) in my opinion.

Could I suggest bumping the whole thing about 5 steps up the gray scale? maybe the E3E3E3 or whatever it is color in the current top right links

Many sites do go with black, but the point was the WOW theme, ya know.... grey is kinda.. dull... and I don't think it'll be the radical change we need to stay fresh. Well, GET fresh, not stay fresh... heh..

Why does everybody think you can only have a cool website if it has a black background? Black backgrounds are hard to read, especially with bright red text. If you must show your Gothic / rock / art student credentials by using a black background <----- Edit: Just for you Magus, LOL--- at least have the decency to use pale grey for the text. Black backgrounds are the ultimate cliché.

I wasn't going to say anything unless someone else brought it up. Lord "Goth Dude" Magus was the last person I thought would bring the black background up.

I have viewed a few other message boards, and the article I quoted above is TRUE, Most text is hard to read against a black background unless it is in pale grey. Now, while I know that that is pretty much the colour that was chosen for the DEFAULT text, our users have grown accustom to having the ability to choose just about any colour in the rainbow, and then some, to express individuality in their sigs, as well as feelings from anywhere such as song lyrics to patriotism in posts. The black background EXTREMELY limits the user to just a few possible colours.

Now some may say, it isn't that big of a deal, and the members are just looking for an excuse to complain if they are complaining about that, or that they can learn the specific colours that will look good against the black background. That's fine as well. I am just throwing that POSSIBLE ISSUE out there now, before all the complaints start rolling in, and we are forced to re-do everything all over again. We are doing this for the members after all. It wouldn't be cool to say something like " stop your bitching and learn some of the limited specific colours (#XXXXXX) or don't use any at all" to the members.

I am thinking something like an empty canvas background (white) with black and yellow buttons, and maybe black links. Maybe yellow links ( a specific yellow that will stand out against the white) for official links. The white background will also make the Ratings Icons stand out much better as well, even though after viewing them against the black background, for the most part they look pretty damn good (see below).

LIke I said, I wouldn't have brought it up unless someone else did.

OK, of the 4 samples, I like #2 the best.

However,

I think that the FAQ link colour up top should be changed from Red to White.

The colour of the grey on the "Displaying 1-25 of 3015 records" should be lightened up to the colour of the grey in the -- Posted By, Replies, and Views statistics area, not the colours of those statistic category titles.

Also, the colour of "Displaying 1-25 of 3015 records." would look better if it was changed from Blue to White., as well as the colour of the page # presently on from Blue to White. the colour of could be White too, but it is small and subtle enough being Red, I guess.

The colouring of all the Ratings Icons look pretty damn good against the black EXCEPT the AWFUL Rating. That definitely needs to be lightened up, especially if it will be used against the black background.

That's my opinion, entertain it, or dicard it, at will. I'd at least like to see what 1 or both would look like. If I get a chance later, I will do it myself and see. Maybe those colour schemes look like shit.

Well remember, the backgrounds of the individual posts will be the lighter of the two greys you see alternating in the topic list (I believe it's "4d4d4d", taking the place of the current "e5e5e5"). Black will really only be used for the background around the outside. Though still not as spiffy as the white for color text, it should be good enough.

As far as the colors at the bottom are concerned, Slash, to be honest, I didn't really spend any time on it. I assume that it's set with the other colors, if so it will change accordingly... if not, and it's hard-set in the code, it can be changed there. Remember, I just took an HTML and edited it, so I might miss stuff. When the actual Forum Variables are set, it should cover everything properly.

I'll lighten up Awful too.

I wasn't criticizing, I was commenting. Since I didn't know what you spent time on, and what you didn't spend time on. I was just looking at the page as a whole, and gave my input. Didn't mean to offend.

OH OK...

So the text will be against the grey (#4d4d4d) not against Black (#000000). All along I was thinking that the text was going to be against the Black (#000000).

If I am understanding things now, I dont see a problem anymore. Previously we were discussing the fact that the user didn't have may choices to colour their text if the post area was set to black background. I have seen message boards like that, and it is very hard on the eyes. It was my previous understanding that it would be a total blanket black background INCLUDING the thext area of posts.

If I was a wigger, I would say, My Bad, lol

So, what will be the default color of the text against the (#4d4d4d) background in the text area?

I don't know about the black either, its very ez-board-ish, in my opinion, but hey if that's the way we're going, I'll jump on the bandwagon too. One thing I have noticed on the board and I hope it's going to change. The description of wrestling has to be changed to edit out the WCW part. It looks ridiculous given the fact that WCW has been out of business for the better part of a year. Maybe change it to something like "The place do discuss current wwf rumors, news, notes and other issues effecting professional wrestling's past, present and future." Other than that, I see no other problem

And now I feel like I'm alive
I don't know how I got so low
These voices in my mind
Tell my it's killing time
It is a thrill I can't describe
