A 2000 New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets report, for example, found rodents, birds or bugs in the aisles of almost 15% of supermarkets. At an Albany, N.Y., Sam's Club, an inspection turned up rodent-gnawed chocolate bars, 500 samples of mice droppings and six dead mice in aisle 13. (A Sam's Club spokesman says the store has "taken extensive steps to correct the problem.")  PharCyde and Droopy106 are my newbies :) Be nice to them! | ||||

| Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00 | This is only the tip of the iceberg! I don't know if you've heard, but there is no current regulation in most states (Incl. NY) for how long meat in the supermarket can be sold; so those expiration labels can be removed and then replaced! The rule is that if it LOOKS GOOD, it can be sold! And usually, it is some kid at night making these determinations. In fact there were a number of News Reports a few months ago about this. They even tested the meat and found alot of it full of dangerous bacteria. Because of this, there is legislature pending. In addition, many more dangerous bacteria are emerging. | O&A Board Regular Registered: Apr. 01 | also if a meat supplier discovers tainted meat, they do not have to report it to the government. if they do report it, the government cannot force them to recall the meat. one supplier took 8 weeks to decide on a recall at which point most of the millions of poinds of beef had already been eaten. the amount they did get back , it was later discovered, was merely mixed in with good meat and sent back out. there was a study of 100 families where all they had to do was eat 1 lb of ground beef a week for 8 weeks. researchers then found that there was more fecal matter in the families kitchen sinks after the 8 weeks then there was in their toilets. the lead researcher said the families would be better off cleaning their vegetables in the toilet then in their sinks.
