| Psychopath Registered: Jun. 01  | Yeah, I think seeing my grandfather cry in front of me when I was 7 years old because he was dying of lung cancer pretty much guaranteed that a cigarette would never EVER touch my lips. As for drugs - never had never will. I figure if I'm ever going to bother trying them it's going to be when I'm like 90 years old and there's no more brain cells to fuck up anyway. I very much fall into the libertarian camp with the drug issue - do what you want so long as you don't hurt anyone else (whether this extends to drug users contributing to an underground economy that ruins innercities and the lives of those in it is up for debate) then go nuts, burn yourself out. I feel bad for people who are baked all the time and feel like they need it all the time. I can't tell if they're stupid for doing the dope or the dope is making them stupid though ;) Not my bag, and at least when I tell my kids "Drugs are bad, mmmmkay" I'll at least have a modicum of moral backing as I had the resolve in that Nancy Reagan "Just say no" era to resist any thing that was offered to me. | Psychopath Registered: Jan. 01 | I'll add my two cents: I have never tried illicit drugs, and due to my career choice, probably never will. I have seen the effects of drug addiction in my volunteer work (EMT), usually at the point where the patient has hit rock bottom, or made a severely bad choice while under the influence. I have also seen the dark side of alcohol, probably at a 1:1 ratio. I do choose to have a drink or two, and if more than that, it is done in moderation (2 per hour). Why? Again, part has to do with my obligations to career, but part is due to my desire to keep my wits about me. I normally could care less as to the actions of others, as long as their conduct does not endanger me or others. If they do threaten themselves, or are looking to clean up, I'm more than glad to help, but I won't try to preach or fuck with them. Hey, to each his or her own; as long as I don't have to clean it up, do what you want. If marijuana is ever legalized, I probably still wouldn't try it, but more because I never got into smoking (tried cigs years ago, but did nothing but choke and wheeze). In a way, I hope it is legalized: then I wouldn't have to excuse myself when the bowl comes out. So, Rog, thanks for showing me that I'm not alone here with regards to the green weed. Pot is ok but i dont smoke it cuz i dont need to waste my time or money. Plus ive seen what happens to my friends who smoke pot. They go from smoking pot every so often to smoking whenever they have a chance. If theyre lucky they at that point. im not saying its good but theres other people i know who went further and started doing other drugs cuz pot wasnt good enough for em. they didnt get high enough, at leeast thats what they told me anyway. I've been pot free for over 4 days now, and yeah I know you assholes will say that 4 days isn't shit, but when you go from smoking 5-10 times a day, to not smoking at all, it is a huge transition. | Psychopath Registered: Mar. 01 | I actually am more bothered by tobacco smoking than pot. I tried the requisite cigs to be cool in high school, and ever since I just don't get it. They are just foul! They taste awful, they leave an awful after taste in your mouth, you don't even get a buzz or anything, and your clothes smell. That sounds like fun. Ever kiss a smoker? Yech. I lost an uncle to cig-induced lung casino many years ago and my parents both smoked like chimneys til they quit a few years back. The house smells much better now. As for pot, it's never bothered me. I only tried it within the last couple months and my reaction was the same as tobacco... tastes awful! But I know that it's actually less dangerous for you than alcohol, so it's cool by me. But, I don't really know anyone who's so far into it that it's messing up their lives or anything. Recreational pot users... I think I wouldn't start being disappointed in someone until I found out they were shooting heroin or smoking crack. That might be my line. Kudos on the topic, Rog. (well not the super hardkore ones) unfortunately or perhaps in my case fortunately, I was forced into rehab but in the long run I'm thankful for it cause i see how alot of people I used to be close with have gone SOOOOo down hill it's been almost 4 years, I could have went back to shit but chose not too alcohol is ok in moderation (even stopped that for close to a year .. making it thru my 21st b'day with no drinks ;)) caffeine and nicotine.. those are my drugs of choice now.. hopefully cutting off the ciggs real soon  I just can't believe all the things people say. Why must I deal with this shit every fucking day. ever stop to think ..... and forget to start again?? | ||||
