| O&A Board Regular Registered: Feb. 01 | From what I understand from the talk in the Ukranian community he was having a life crisis. Started cheating on his wife left and right and she was crying to everyone about it and their other problems. This upset him and shamed him and made him feel like less than a man. In the European community when you're wife brings shame upon you in this fashion it is a true disgrace. I have 1 question. If it's determined that he had a life crisis and that was the basis for this will he get the same sympathy that the woman in Texas is getting from the NOW organization? And I have 1 comment. See what happens when you take your relationships and air them out into the community. You end up pregnant and stabbed to death. ;) There is a lesson here people. If you're a guy and have a crisis buy a corvette don't stab your wife. Our world isn't perfect and you will not receive the same sympathy as a woman who murders her 5 children. Nikolay Soltys told detectives he killed his wife, 3-year-old son, aunt, uncle and two 9-year-old cousins because they were ``poisoning'' him, investigators said Friday. Thursday night, he took investigators to the places where he went after the killings, pointing out the abandoned home where he initially stayed. Police believe Soltys left his car hidden behind a home improvement store and worked his way toward his mother's home in suburban Citrus Heights, about five miles away. Early Thursday, Soltys' brother spotted the 27-year-old fugitive - dirty, barefoot and with several days' growth of beard - hiding under a desk in the mother's back yard. The brother alerted police, who moved in and arrested Soltys. A backpack and sleeping bag were found nearby, and inside the pack was a 10-inch knife police think Soltys used to stab his relatives to death on Aug. 20. But police don't believe Soltys returned to his mother's house to harm her or other family members. ``The impression was he was not coming back to kill them,'' Sacramento County Sheriff's Sgt. James Lewis said. ``It was more a reaching out to the family.'' Police said they were still trying to understand what motived Soltys to kill and what he meant when he said the relatives were trying to ``poison'' him. ``We have learned that metaphorically in their culture that would mean someone talking poorly of them,'' Lewis said. ``It could be either way: literally, or metaphorically, they were poisoning his name.'' Soltys had suggested a poisoning of his reputation in a note left in his abandoned vehicle to explain the rampage. The note said he killed the young cousins to punish their parents for speaking out against him, investigators said, but it offered no explanation for killing his own young son. Soltys also told police he never had the Ford Explorer a witness reported seeing him and his son in, and investigators now believe Soltys killed the boy shortly after the other slayings. Police also initially believed Soltys had a stash of up to $16,000, but he was found exhausted and with little money. He apparently never turned to any of his countrymen in Sacramento's large Ukrainian-Russian community for aid, police said. Soltys spoke at length with detectives without demanding a lawyer, said Sheriff Lou Blanas. He will be represented by the public defender's office. Police wouldn't formally release details at the request of Sacramento County District Attorney Jan Scully. Prosecutors plan to announce charges against Soltys on Tuesday, shortly before his arraignment. A spokeswoman said it is too soon to say whether they will seek the death penalty.
