If I remember just from the book, the man who led the attack on the gun emplacements was Dawson.

Perhaps, but the question was about the guy shooting from the tree, he was to follow behind once the first emplacement was taken and destroy it with the TNT. By the time he got there, they had already used potato mashers to do the trick. And by the way Dent, it was Lipton. :)

Well, then again Slack, I've had 2 hour meetings with people and had no idea who they were until I read their business card on the way out. ;)

Yup, you were right, it was Carwood Lipton providing cover fire as Dawson put the phosphorous grenades in the guns. Damn I need to get my tape of this.

At first, HBO wasn't going to show tonights episode out of respect for what happened Tuesday.

I'm really glad they did. I think people realy needed to see a story about America's heros in action. And about one man overcoming overwhelming fear to become a hero.

Bravo.

I thought of a couple of things watching tonight's episode.

War is hell. How scary must it have been? To not know when the next mortar or bullet was going to be heading for you? To be snuffed out like that? Jesus!

Thankfully our boys are even better equipped today. Think of all the kevlar and great weaponry and technology that they will have at their disposal.

Our country needs this show more than ever to show that good does triumph over evil and that when our country is behind the troops and the war is noble, NO ONE will stop us.

Support the troops!

Thank you to all the brave volunteers who brought us all together as a country,
and thank you to those of you brave soldiers who will fight and have fought for our country.
We are a free people because of your efforts.

Yes, but you still need to run up to a building to see what's inside of it. Except for those few issues where Superman joined the war effort and was able to use his X-ray vision to see through the barn.

This show just keeps getting better. I thought this weeks battle scenes were amazing. They really showed the horror of war, and how friggin scary it was. Guys just froze there. With bombs and bullets flying overhead. They freaked.

I have one major problem with the show. Does anyone else find it really annoying that they don't show the guys names in the beginning when they have the real guy talking? I mean, why can't they put their name under them while they are speaking so we know who it is???

And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I gladly stand up next to you
And defend her still today
Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the USA

I love this show. But I am still having a problem telling them all apart from one another. A small price to pay for good cinema.

Names aren't shown b/c they don't want you to know who lives thru it, and who dies. Perhaps at the very end, you will see who's who.

I for one, am glad it's done this way. Obviously, you are gonna see some regulars disappear eventually.

Dude, I love the show, and watched it last night. But, for some reason it gave me chills, I was 82'nd airborne from 86-89, and am still young enough to be recalled if the shit hits the fan.(33 yesterday). Honestly, to a certain extent, it scares the hell out of me(actually having to kill someone this time), but if my country calls me, I WILL GO. Remember, we will be avenged

I find it unnerving that I can watch "Band of Brothers",enjoy it, shed a tear, move on, but I can't watch the news without crying for the rest of the day. I saw "Tora! Tora! Tora!" (the movie about Pearl Harbour) for the first time over the weekend. I hate to think we'll be watching a movie about the Towers probably sooner than later. I count my lucky stars that I didn't know anyone in the Towers and I don't have any really close friends or family members of fighting age. I have trouble watching war movies as it is, I couldn't imagine having someone I love in a war. I wouldn't be able to function in reality. But don't get me wrong, I wanna see a movie in the future that shows how we let these bastards terrorize us, but then we kicked their fucking asses. Nuke em all. Let the devil sort em out.

I haven't heard any here say it yet, but watching last night I had a totally different feeling that watching last week's episodes. It's now way too real.

Think about how this week has changed perspectives. Things that we could watch or joke about a few weeks ago are too emotional for us now. Last week I rented the DVD "13 days" about the cuban missile crisis. I was waiting to watch the "extras" about the actual events. Since tuesday I haven't been able to watch them - they seem a little too possible now.

Sig pic removed temporarily as a sign of respect.

Oh man I can just see it now "9-11... starring Will Smith or something..."
(that wasnt meant to be a joke)

I watched Band of Brother's the other night & i really really liked it... what's funny is I watched it to get away from the news..
Isn't it interesting how war has changed... Back then was more *physical fighting*...
Now, ... we just drop bombs on each other...
Hell, fuck it... drop a bomb on those bastards.

Anyways, are there more episodes besides part 1 & 2 aired yet?

Episodes one and two aired last week, the third installment premiered last night. Thus far, the show has progressively gotten better with each episode. That isn't to say that they haven't all been great, I mean only that it keeps outdoing itself, a good sign for any show.

Gooch, I agree that they are intentionally withholding the names so as not to give away events yet to come. Of course anyone who has read the stories (i.e. Froy) already knows.

Why was it in 5.1 and letterboxed on one hbo, and normal on the other. seemed like huge waste of programing time to me.

Believe it or not, there are some ignorant people out there that actually think the non-letterbox version is better. I guess they think those people won't appreciate 5.1 sound either, so they figure, why waste the bandwidth? As for the sound, for those of us that have 5.1 surround via Satellite (or digital cable?), the sound is FUCKING AWESOME, which IMHO is half the reason the show kicks ass. For those of you that love the show, and haven't seen it in 5.1, at least rent the series when it comes out on DVD. I'm betting it will. You really can't appreciate how good it is without the 5.1 sound.

I just wanted to comment on the last episode from this week, 11-4. At the end of the show where they have the interviews of the actual people I couldn't help but get incredibly pissed off! I'm watching these guys and the reactions they still have today from what they went through and how they speak of the guys they served with. They went through this for OUR country and our FREEDOM and the AMERICAN WAY. I was practically in tears just trying to come close to relating to what they went through, which there's no possible way of doing.
All this for what our country does now today. We practically don't even have an American Way anymore. Everyone is so damn concerned with political correctness and cow-towing to every F'ing group who has an agenda or problem with someone or something that they feel is offensive to them. It's like our country has no identity anymore. What the hell ever happened to people coming to this country and trying to FIT IN while still holding on to some of their own traditions and values. Now they try to IMPOSE them on this country. And the worst part is.....people are ALLOWING it! It almost makes you think the sacrifices all those soldiers made were for nothing and to let that happen would be absurd!!!

That last episode was incredible. They portrayed WWII so accurately. This marks the first time in a long time a Spielberg project knew how to end. I loved seeing the guy from Office Space. Band of Brothers was quite possibly one of the greatest, most realistic mini-series since Roots (Possibly better.)

This was the best mini-series ever.

And the twenty minute scene in the Concentration Camp was more powerful than ALL of Schindler's List! I don't think ANY movie has ever dared to try to show that before and they did it perfectly!

I can't wait for the documentary on Sunday with all the interviews and stories straight from the heros themselves.

Skydiver, i share a certain (smaller) degree of your anger toward today's 'American Way'. But, you really can't let yourself think that what they went through was for nothing. Its partly because of what they went through, that we have political correctness and why the idiots of the world are allowed to do what they do.. The freedoms afforded to us are the up side. The nonsense that comes from those freedoms are just what we have to deal with..
BoB, definately the best mini-series that i've ever seen.. Major Winters stopping Sobol (Schwimmer) and making him salute him abso-fuckin'-lutely rocked man!

[Insert witty/profound sig line here]
Warning: I will be pissed off until June 28th, 2002.

I know me eithier. Man that was one of the best shows that I have ever seen. I loved it at the end where Major Winter stopped Cpt. Sobil, and told him "we solute the rank not the man".

ohh no Hummer, I don't think that. I realize the Freedoms we have are directly attributable to them. It's just that the fact we live in a free society and people are able to almost censor what you say or think pisses me off! If someones not happy about something or feels slighted, say something about it and then get on with their lives. That's their right, but they shouldn't try telling someone to think along the lines that they do. That's their right...to think differently. The guys had a good example of that on the show the other day. Talking about TGI Fridays and how they're renaming drinks to be more P.C. Christ get a life!!!! In this day and age people are concerned about a drink called a Screaming Orgasm and Sex On The Beach? Holy S.
In the same vein. Anyone notice how Veterans Day is one of the most overlooked Holidays sometimes? Hopefully, recent events and shows like this will help to change that.
