Ok, now I'm sure for years most of us here have watched and enjoyed the Simpsons. And, as most Simpson fans did, we checked out Futurama. Finally there's Family Guy. Combining both the Simpsons style of timing and easy jokes with Futurama's focus on comtemperary events in a future setting while never missing an oppertunity for an easy joke.

Now as you can probably tell, I'm a big fan of Family Guy. After spending some time downloading some episodes, and then watching the simpsons just now, it made me realize that the simpsons are tame compained to Family Guy. Anything the simpsons do which is funny, Family Guy can multiply 5 times over.

So which one do you enjoy more?

It is my contention that Family Guy is the funniest show on television. But the Simpsons is a landmark, it's hallowed ground.

Currently Family Guy is by far the funniest thing on television. I've watched the Simpsons since day 1, but it doesnt appeal to me nearly as much these days. Still a great overall show though. Never got into Futurama so i'd put it a distant 3rd.

All time- The Simpsons due to classic episodes and how groundbreaking it was and the fact that I grew up with it.

Currently- Futurama. For some reason I like the characters, jokes and writing sharper and better than the three. Family Guy, however, does have a bigger LPE ratio than current Simpsons episodes. Sure every once in awhile there's a HOMR but those are few and too far between. Originally I didn't like FG but recently they've dropped doing 'flashback' jokes every 5 seconds and it's earned a place on my viewing schedule. Fuck Survivor

Current order: Family Guy, Futurama, Simpsons.

What I love about the Family Guy is you never know where the joke will come from. They will zing pop references from nowhere; (Electric Company, Quantum Leap, The Sound of Music) They will also take much greater risks ala South Park.

Futurama is good, when it gets shown. Damn football. It's just the stories need a little more imagination, not present day situations and personalities set in future time. If I see one more preserved head....

Simpsons, your time is up. No doubt it's a legendary show, but even Seinfeld and M*A*S*H knew when it was time to bow out. No more wacky guest star vehicles please. The N* Sync episode rooned it for me.

LPE Ratio??? Holy christ, do you count how many times you laugh during each episode, log it on a spreadsheet and find the average and standard deviation or something??

Simpsons is just a shadow of it's former self. I would put Futurama first with FG a close second. Futurama just has hilarious characters in general from bender the drinking rude robot, fry, farnsworth, zoidberg, leila, zap, etc. I'm just pissed they don't give it a better slot. Futurama deserves to be on after Simpsons. Not Malcolm in the fucking Middle. And I hope fox doesn't fuck up and cancel FG again for the 3rd time.

I don't like Malcolm in the Middle. I think that 8:30 Sundays was the perfect slot for Futurama bridging Simpsons and X-Files. If FOX were smart they'd make this their Wednesday lineup-"King of the Hill-8, 8:30- Tick, 9- Futurama, 9:30- Family Guy". They couldn't move Simpsons from their Sunday home but that would be an awesome 2 hour block instead of having the "FOX comedy wheel" where they just show a rerun of That 70s Show, Malcolm or Simpsons.

Get satelite. Whenever that happens(like today) I just watch Futurama at 10 on Fox West. It's fucking sweet. BTW there will a Futurama episode on a later time than usual because of certain themes and jokes. Should be a great show.

Lemme put that into my Graphing Calculator....Yep, that would provide an optimum LPE ratio ;)

Actually it would be a LPPTB (laugh per prime time block) ratio. Since LPE stands for individual episodes.

The Simpsons takes the cake due to longevity and consistency. A bad episode of the Simpsons is still better than most of the crap on TV these days.

Futurama is good, but not on often enough to make it a must-see. The psycho Santa-bot Xmas episode was hilarious.

Family Guy ends up offending me more often than entertaining me. I love Stewey (evil babies rule!), but that's about it as far as that show goes.

Family Guy, Futurama, Simpsons

Simpsons was one of the greatest shows of all-time but it keeps on diminishing the more it's on the air. The new shows suck. Let's see what kind of wacky hijinx Homer can get into this week (cue Ant's wacky horn). Now 10 years from now when you watch it in syndication the odds of seeing a shitty episode will have increased. Damn shame too.

Futurama and Family Guy were neck and neck during their premiere runs in the spring of 99 but Family Guy has pulled away since I never know when the hell Futurama is going to be on. I mean Family Guy gets cancelled a lot but at least you know when it's going to be on and not preempted (although I have missed the last two episodes. Shit.).

All 3 shows are funny. More LPE's for me with Family Guy. Titus followed buy Family Guy is the funniest hour on TV right now.
I still watch The Simpsons religously but they have lost something over the last few years. The writters need to try harder and rely less on guest stars.
I watch Futurama when I remember its on, Some shows I find very funny others I dont find that funny somethimes they try to hard for a joke.
Nothing will ever replace the Simpsons, I even watch them at 7 and 7:30 , Im still waiting for the Talking Malabu Stacy Doll rerun. Thats one of my personal Favs. And I cant find that one on the net , very aggravating.

I didnt like it at first, Ive started to watch it and its growing on me, some of the pranks they pull are hillarous.

Family Guy may be the edgiest now, but Simpsons was landmark television. It brought back adult references to animation that hadn't been seen since Bugs Bunny.

I remember hearing an interview with Matt Groenig back near the beginning of the Show. He said that he tried(and succeeded) to make the shows enjoyable on several levels. It can be enjoyed by sophisticated adults, adolescent kids, and he said, even infants can enjoy Maggie and her pacifier. Without the Simpsons, we don't get Family Guy. (and probably not Conan O'Brian, who was a writer on Simpsons)

One interesting thing, Simpson's writers definitely read alt.tv.simpsons. There have been shows with references to comonly asked questions and/or comment there; such as Comic Book Guy, and his "Worst Episode Ever", The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular (clip show), where they refer to common intenet questions of whether Smithers is gay, how what the register says at opening, etc.

Sure, the episodes lately have been lesser; there have, after all, been 12 years worth.

on a side topic, if anyone else here as read stuff at a.t.s, you know some of the many reference on each show, side jokes, and neurotics who feel the need to record them all.
