Mmmm...Simpsons-Brand Cereal!
Monday September 10 8:26 PM ET

Move over, Wheaties, there's a new breakfast of champions in town. Thanks to the grain whizzes at Kellogg's and the marketing whizzes at Fox, The Simpsons is getting cerealized.

Hitting the grocery aisles later this month will be not one, but two new cereals based on the dysfunctional 'toon family: Homer's Cinnamon Donut Cereal and Bart Simpson Peanut Butter Chocolate Crunch.

Mmmm...

As any Simpsons aficionado can tell you, the flavors of the new cereals are based on established cravings of both characters. Homer Simpson is famous for his gluttonous appetite, and donuts are clearly one of his two favorite foods (we won't hold our breath for the Duff Beer-laced granola). While Bart has never actually been big on peanut butter-based candy on the show, he's been skateboarding through Butterfingers candy bar commercials for several years.

The two products will come in 12-13 ounce boxes, with a sticker price of about $2.49 each. Each box will feature plenty of Simpsons' trivia and show-related material to occupy your mind between bowls of the sugary snacks.

The Simpsons has been Fox's longest-running program, about to enter its unprecedented 13th season with the network. The show has already long surpassed the longevity of TV land's other favorite animated family, The Flintstones. (Ironically, while The Flintstones is no longer in production, Fred and Barney's cereal is--Post has been cranking out Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles for decades).

Kellogg's, which recently inked a breakfast-branding deal with Disney, will now be adding The Simpsons to the company's already formidable army of cereal-pushing cartoon characters, which includes Tony the Tiger, Diggum, the Honey Smacks frog and the Rice Krispies-loving Snap, Crackle and Pop. Kellogg's plans to test the waters first by marketing The Simpsons' cereals as a "limited edition" food. Should sales take off, Homer and Bart could be elbowing for shelf space against the likes of the Lucky Charms Leprechaun and the Cocoa Puffs cuckoo for years to come.

If we're lucky, maybe Kellogg's will look to Springfield's own favorite cereals for inspiration for future Simpsons breakfast food: Krusty Brand Cereal (now comes with a FREE, jagged metal Krusty-O in every box!) and Chocolate Frosted Frosty Krusty Flakes (only sugar has more sugar).

When Simpsons first came out there was a SHITload of marketing crap- dolls, toys, stickers, etc. and that disappeared. Coinciding with the disapperance came the Simpson's "Golden Age." Recently, for some reason, the marketing machine has focused on The Simpsosn again.
