Is anyone else comletely disgusted

....yes, I am!

What was that about a thirst for blood? Are you watching the news right now? See all the fear and confusion in people's faces? The chaos? The commotion? The sadness? The horror?

And we haven't even gotten to the 1st wave of body bags. Nor does the attacks of the day seem anywhere near over.

In my post within your thread, I wondered how we (as in you, I and America in general) would feel if we knew terrorism 1st hand. If we had to live in constant fear. If we all knew someone who had died as a result of these senseless attacks. If, almost daily, we had to wait and see to find out if loved ones were coming home to us. Or if they perhaps died for the crime of being on the right bus at the wrong time. Or, as is the case today, perhaps dead, blown to bits or burnt alive while working their jobs or simply living their lives.

Pretty easy to blame Israel for striking back, while you're enjoying the security & safety that a 5,000 mile buffer zone affords.

By the way, think about today's date - September the 11th; 9/11. 911. Sounds about right, doesn't it?

Disgusted? Doesn't even begin to do it justice!!!

I ABSOLUTELY agree with you.
In that thread, I blamed both sides. For this, it looks like its Bin Ladin.

Given the chance, I'd kill the motherfuckers myself.

And yes, I do still think Isreal's wrong for a lot they've done to the average palestinian citizen just trying to live their life.

Let's leave this thread alone until tomorrow. Not really thinking too straight today.

LOTUS EATERS

It's a very old term that comes from Homer's "The Odyssey". When the sailors landed on one island, they found a paradise of woman and "lotuses" which they ate and got the equivalent of a drug high. An island so comfortable, they forgot about their quest to get home to family.

Anybody whose read Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" will remember Roland using the term when he visited NY. Roland came from a land where violence was as common as breathing. Where anybody could be an enemy. He couldn't understand how everybody in NY could be so lax, so complacent and unaware.

Today, my complacency was shattered. My office building is less than a mile north of where the towers used to be. I arrived at my office today a little after nine. Standing in the lobby waiting for the elevator I overheard some people talking about something hitting a building. I thought they were talking about the lighting that hit a nearby building yesterday. Then, there was a loud bang outside and a woman said "Oh God, another one." We went outside and saw the black cloud blowing east over the city. There was one guy in the lobby who was on a bus passing the WTC when the first plane hit. He told us he saw people falling from the building. He was shaking like a leaf and his voice broke when he spoke.

I got in the elevator and immediately joined the crowd at the windows. The bang I had heard was the second plane hitting the south tower. I could see the gaping holes in the towers, the flames billowing out, and the cloud of black smoke filling the sky. People were talking about how they watched the second plane deliberately turn into the building. One plane MAYBE an accident, but two planes has to be deliberate. We all knew it immediately.

I was on the net trying to get info from the news sites and here while listening to 1010Wins. They were talking to a female reporter when she said "Oh my God, It?s coming down!" I threw off my headphones and ran to the window just in time to watch the south tower fall. I was in shock. I went back to my desk to look for more info, then went back to the window and just sat there staring at the one tower left, the north tower. I was looking straight into the gaping hole where the plane had gone in. Suddenly, the tower collapsed and was gone. The rubble cloud enveloped the smaller buildings between us and the falling tower.

My company had its Christmas party in the WTC. We went for drinks after work at Windows On The World. Only a few weeks ago, I went to a business lunch at WOTW. I've been through those buildings MANY times just in the last year.

I've lived in this city my entire life. Live in Queens, went to college in Brooklyn, work in Manhattan. I used to look out the window in grammar school in Queens and see the towers. Anywhere in the city, the towers were a landmark to navigate by. Now they're gone.

I've always though of those towers as PERMENANT. They've been there since before I was born and they'd be there long after I'm gone. Even in the post-apocalyptic movies, they were still there. Maybe all the windows were smashed and the top few floors were cut off, but they were THERE.

I can?t begin to explain how I feel about this. Something fundamental has been taken away from us all.

I like to think the best of everyone. I?d like to think that fanatics are the minority everywhere. That the majority of Palestinians are as good and descent as the guy who owns the Deli on my corner. I'd like to believe that logic, reason, and morality will win out over the majority.

I?d like to believe that there's a difference between justice and revenge. That there's a correct measured response that opens the way to negotiation and peace and an over-reaction that leads to an escalation of violence.

There's a lot I'd like to believe, but those beliefs are the luxury of a person living in a peaceful civilized world dealing with other civilized people. What we are dealing with can barely be considered people let alone civilized.

Anyone who can carry out this inhuman, callous action deserves any fate our military can deal out. Anyone who supports them in anyway deserves an equal fate.

This terrorist act was supposed to frighten us into submission. They don't believe that we "Lotus Eater's" have the stomach to deal with this or to retaliate in kind. They couldn't be more wrong. And they must realize that because they STILL haven't taken credit.

Because as soon as we have a target, that target will cease to exist.

Today, the effect of the "lotus" has worn off for good. I know I see the world in a whole new way today.

Arthur, now is not the time for "I-Told-You-So" and that's not what I'm going for here. I suspect many people are looking at the World a bit differently today.

For what it's worth, take some consolation in the way humanity has risen to the occasion. Thousand of men & women coming together, sifting through flaming mountains of rubble and body parts, all in the hopes of saving precious lives.

Be well!!
