| September 13, 2001 -- If you type the words "World Trade Center" in the search box on eBay, your mouth might open wide at the sickening memorabilia - like postcards of the buildings and debris from the wreckage.
There's a World Trade Center postcard with an asking price of $15,099.99 and a "Divided We Stand" World Trade Center book for $25, and a "Pentagon Elite" knife with a 5-inch blade for $48.
But you can't buy them anymore.
Employees of eBay have been working to track down any sick pranksters or greedy misfits since yesterday afternoon, and shut down the bids.
"Any item that has been posted on eBay of the World Trade Center or the Pentagon will be removed until Oct. 1," said eBay spokesman Kevin Pursglove.
"Initially we did allow some items, but as the day [Tuesday] wore on, we began receiving e-mails from our users who noticed there were more and more items on the site, and some items using inappropriate language that exploited the events in New York and Washington."
The auction site announced a temporary suspension of all items associated with the events, and references to Osama bin Laden. This has occurred before, when individuals listed merchandise related to such tragedies as the deaths of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Dale Earnhardt.
When an eBay user posts something that might be related to the terrorist attacks, workers - who are keeping an eye on the site 24 hours a day - remove the items. A message then appears: "The item you requested is invalid or no longer in our database."
There will be penalties for those who have been tracked down.
"So far we have suspended nine accounts," says Pursglove. "If they are frequent users and we have given them a warning before, then they will get suspended. If they have registered today, then they will be suspended."

| Good, fuck those assholes that would try to capitalize on tragedy. They should ban these people from further ebay sales.
God Bless The USA. |
