Listen I don't know most of you..but I have a specific request. I know most of you have already
done TONS of shit...you've donated blood, made phone calls, cried, raged, volunteered(-ing)
and I was thinking. The O&A community can band together in a real way THIS SATURDAY!!
The way you guys do things- Just come on down...9/15, This Saturday to the:

Chelsea Piers Command Post
Located in the Chelsea Piers Gym off of the West Side Highway
right around West 18th-W 20th St. You can't miss it!
It's an official EMT call out point. You'll see a gang of Cops, EMT Workers & Firemen.
Whoever's interested..we can meet there at 8am- they'll sign you up and you can leave
whenever you want. they may reassign you over to the armory or the javitz or send you
over to the salvation army if they have too many volunteers. but they told me that they get
busy during the days. one more thing..they move space around- so i'll repost tomorrow if
they move operations over to join up with the forces at javitz but whoever's interested
please sign here in this thread so I know how many O&A heads will be there!

If I lived in the city I'd be there right now...

Do you think they'd be any way to get in from Jersey (the shore to be specific) on Saturday?

I am definitely going to do this. I tried to volunteer for the Red Cross, but since I am not a mental health or medical professional or bilingual, they don't really need me. I will be there on Saturday, and will stay as long as they need me to. If anyone from the Brooklyn area wants to go in together or if maybe we can all meet somewhere and go together I would feel alot better about that.

The construction company I work for offered their services to help with the clean-up.

They put us on a waiting list.

So I might be there next month

Are they definitely going to need us at this location? I don't want to show up just to be turned away. Is there a number that you can supply us with to call or something please?

Excellent Question! Listen Guys, I came back home earlier tonight after driving straight to 23rd St
right after work to volunteer. THEY HAD A LINE DOWN THE BLOCK of people waiting to either
donate or volunteer. They almost didn't let me in. Then when they did..after 15 mins they didn't have
enough use for me or any of the certified social workers that were hanging around waiting to be used.
God, ALL of us are just itching to be used to help!!!! Anyway, there are like 4-5 other org.'s incl. The
Salvation Army that have requested volunteers. I don't want us to just get out there on saturday only
to be turned away...SO, I am going downtown again NOW...I know I've been travelling late hours
last night and tonight but I am Sooo frustrated and there's no way in HELL that I'm going to be like some
of the other dousches at my job and try to go back to business as usual as if nothing happened. I HATE
those people. REALLY. not some rant..I HATE those people!! (How DARE they act as if nothing
happened..how dare they BETRAY this country, this PEOPLE like that!) Anyway..I'm going to check on
the status of the salvation army..do they need people badly this weekend and will we be turned away. If
the answer I get is less than positive then I will CANCEL this get together on saturday and just go by
myself FMFB. I will post info IMMEDIATELY this morning after I get to my Job. But I'm leaving within
the half hour to go downtown- the S.A. volunteering is apparently open 24 HRS.

OK?

PS, I'm not a certified social worker- I just read my post- i don't want it to be confusing
I went to volunteer in the general pool but there were several people who were CSW's there!

Thanx, please keep us updated. I gave my name and number to several organizations along with my qualifications; I'm now thinkig I don't want to go down unless I know I'm needed.

UPDATED INFO.

Ok I'm here at work now. I just came from The Salvation Army on 14th St btwn 6th & 7th
Ave. It's the bldg with the red awnings. I spoke to Capt. Satterly and he told me that they're
accepting volunteers but NOT UNTIL Tuesday, 9/18/01. Here are the contact #'s given to me:

Salvation Army Command Headquarters

(212) 337 - 7380

(212) 337 - 7241

(212) 337 - 7414

So we can all arrange the best day for us all to go down and DO something.

The Funny thing was they had 6-8 cases of Samuel Adams in the corner! I was like..damn who are they
donating that to..I guess the Officers will need a couple of cold ones.

and Raven, Congrats again!!

Thank you for the update...I have a few numbers that I have been trying to call, but there is a never ending busy signal. I really would like to do something, anything this weekend, but I don't want to stand around doing nothing because that would just make me feel worse. If anyone knows of any numbers to call or places to go (I don't have to work in Manhattan, I would work in Brooklyn, Queens etc if there was something to be done) please E-Mail Methank you.
