Two firefighters searching the World Trace Center rubble were trapped in an air pocket for several hours before they were rescued, a fire official said. Ninety-four people were confirmed dead and 4,763 people had been reported missing.

Near the Trade Center site, the top 10 floors of the 53-story One Liberty Plaza began buckling and forced the evacuation of some rescue workers.

A Pentagon official says about 190 people died in the attack there, a preliminary figure which includes the passengers aboard the airliner that slammed into the building.

The number-two official at the Pentagon warns there will be a long-term military campaign, not just a single strike, in retaliation to the terrorist attacks. Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz wouldn't say when it would begin. But he warns it won't end until the terrorists "are defeated."

Attorney General John Ashcroft says officials believe there were 18 hijackers. Two planes had five hijackers each and two had four each. The hijackers boarded the planes as ticketed passengers.

Attorney General John Ashcroft says violence or threats of violence against people of Arab descent won't be tolerated. President Bush says people must "treat Arab-Americans and Muslims with the respect they deserve" and hold the terrorists and those who harbor them responsible.

Attorney General John Ashcroft says he has streamlined the process for families of New York City's dead public safety personnel to get benefits.

Financial research firm Standard and Poor's says a U-S recession in the third and fourth quarters is likely, in the wake of the terror attacks. The good news: S-and-P expects a quick rebound for the economy, spurred by increased government and construction spending.

One man was arrested at New York's LaGuardia Airport today after making a comment about having a device in his bag. The airport was evacuated for a few minutes. A search turned up nothing.

The Red Cross in Washington is sending Amtrak mail cars full of disaster relief supplies to New York. Amtrak donated its services.

Former President Bush says the terrorist attacks awakened American resolve -- just like Pearl Harbor did. He says the new enemy isn't a Cold War superpower, but unpredictability and instability.

President Bush will go to New York City tomorrow following a prayer service at Washington's National Cathedral. He toured the Pentagon yesterday.

The nation's airspace is open. Airports will resume flights after they meet new security measures.

Bridges leading into New York are open. The Lincoln Tunnel is open -- the Holland Tunnel remains closed. Trains and buses from New Jersey are running again. Amtrak is operating normally along the Northeast Corridor.

The Miami Herald reports that the company that provided security at the airports involved in the hijackings has been cited for security lapses in the past. A-H-L Services provides security for 17 of the nation's 20 largest airports.

94 bodies recovered at the World Trade Center -- 46 identified. 70 body parts recovered. More than 47-hundred still missing.

70 bodies recovered at the Pentagon. Officials estimate 190 have died -- 126 inside the Pentagon and 64 on the hijacked plane. Operations have switched officially from a rescue to a recovery operation.

266 people were on the four hijacked planes. None survived.


The New York Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ remain closed. They might open Friday.

These markets are opened: major futures markets, the government bond market, the Chicago Board of Trade, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

Baseball: Major League Baseball games postponed through the weekend

Football: NFL postpones games this weekend.

Golf: All four of this weekend's PGA sanctioned golf tournaments are canceled. The LPGA says its Safeway Classic in Oregon will be played.

THIS JUST IN :

While watching NBC - they interviewed a fireman who said a wife of a PA (I think) received a cell call from her husband. They say there are 10 officers trapped in Building 1 - 2 stories down. They are going back to get them..NOW
