We need to build up the troops and support. Remember, we did this once before during Desert Shield/Storm.

It takes time to get everything in place - we need to do this once and GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME

A few things...

1. This will not be a draft war unless things change a lot. A war with specific targets like this requires specially trained forces, not sheer manpower.

2. This will be even more 'clean' than desert storm. Considering the rough terrain, there will be more air opperations.

3. Calm down.

Make no mistake about it, and please prepare for this, because we are all going to need to:

THIS WILL NOT BE AS "CLEAN" AS THE GULF WAR!

Keep in mind that during the Gulf War, Iraq INVADED Kuwait. This time, WE were "invaded."

As a result, the President has even more support from the people than his father did.

(Remember that "No blood for oil" bullshit and all those protestors who like to protest things on the weekday so they didn't have to go to work or school?)

We cannot sit by an "relax" about this. Brave Americans will be lost during this war. But rest assured, we WILL be victorious and once again freedom will reign.

Thank you to all the brave volunteers who brought us all together as a country,

I don't even understand why infantry troops need
to be sent over there. It's not like we want to
occupy "their" country. Any damage that needs
to be done can be done with self guided weapons
or aircraft.

Massive amounts of manpower aren't necesary. In my opinion and from what I've read of history, the best thing would be a strategic bombing of the necesary installations and large special forces operations against specific targets & personages. I know it's easy to be an arm-chair general, but there's my 2 cents.

I hate to say it but ground forces WILL be necessary, there are very few places where bombing will be effective, due to the fact that they have no centralized army, and government. WHat they do have is over 6 million guerrillia fighters who would rather die than give up a cowardly prick. I dont think desert storm applies, i think this will be more of a vietnam type deal, but in the end we will win because we are strong and we are just

Well, it's not quite as bad as Vietnam.

No jungle to hide in, just sand dunes.

At least Pakistan is on our side.... that's REALLY good news...

You also have to take into account the topology of Afghanistan.

It's basically a mountainous desert. We'll go in and get these fucking jawas, but it will very, very likely take the use of ground troops, and of special forces units.

You can sit there and level those mountains out if you want, but that doesn't mean that you're going to get the little bastards when they're hiding down in underground caves and bunkers (please refer to Vietnam and Iraq).

This is also an excuse to go into Iraq. It would not at ALL be surprising if they didn't send ground troops in to go get Saddam Hussein and take him out as well.

They are planning a whole bunch of stuff here, and it will probably make more sense to us all in retrospect.

It's going to be a new kind of war, that's for sure, just like the Gulf War was, but the casualties will undoubtedly be higher in this war.

I was checking out vote.com because they were having a vote on whether people supported the use of ground troops. Eighty-eight percent to 12 percent is the current tally. People are pissed, and they will support whatever is required to rid us of this terrorist blight.

Who wants to bet that Barbara Lee (D) of California won't be re-elected next year? Not generally a good idea to be the "1" in a 420-1 house vote to give the President the authority to commit troops to this latest effort.

People were STILL having their anti-Gulf War voting records brought up in just the last election, so I think this chick's gone ;)

I'm sensing an uneasiness amongst many of you in using ground troops. I'm sorry kids but the sterile wars of the past isn't going to work here. And don't count on Pakistan cooperating much. They are agreeing to cooperate now to keep from being a target. That will change. India and Pakistan will not work together, and we will back India. Ground troops will be necessary. We will have to occupy these countries to force a change in their policies. The death of Hitler did not end the Nazi mindset. Occupation of Germany forced a move twoards democracy. The joint occupation by Russia led to a communist government in East Berlin. Get used to this being a real and long war. We will not see the boys home in time for Christmas. Remember, this is not a video game war. Pressing reset will not make the game end just to start over when you want to.

Don't get me wrong, if we need to send ground troops in, I'm not against it, I just want to keep our casulties at a minimum. We are going to have to have some ground troops without a doubt. Probably recon teams.

or topography... whichever suits you...

And JJ, you could not be farther from reality on that one. Iwo Jima received the longest aerial bombardment of WWII, much longer than DDay in fact. Yet it had almost no effect. 22,000 Japanese defenders were completely untouched in their defenses and it took a force of 110,000 marines two months to clear the island.

Hehehe SHIT, nice catch Troy - can you tell that I spend WAY too much time every day working on network TOPOLOGIES?

D'oh!

Hopefully my point didn't get too muddle behind my poor choice of words. As you say - bombing people in tunnels just doesn't work out that well.

You can TOUR the frickin' Viet Cong tunnels to this very day.

And of course even though they had those funky drill-head type bombs, they still couldn't get to Saddam Hussein when he was locked in his bunkers.

What bombs can't enter though, PEOPLE often can. Again though, this is why our troops need to be given all of our support. I can't begin to think how scary it would be to have to "smoke out" some terrorists from their "holes."

Yipe!

Why, it's Froy's evil brother - and as we all know the "F" key is very close to the "T" key.

Did I mention that my favorite historical character is Helen of Froy?

I have the feeling we will need to occupy Afghanistan. The Taliban is now threatning War with any country that helps us, and not to mention they supported Bin Laden for 5,6,10 years?

I have a feeling while this will mostly be a War agaist terrorisim, we will wind up being at war against Afghanistan, maybe more. Who knows...

Ezekiel 25:17. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will shepherd the weak through the valley of darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper, and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is The Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."

This is also a clever ruse to go after Iraq. They REALLY need to be overthrown, and I seriously think that is part of the plan.

They have factories in FULL production making biological and chemical agents and that shit needs to stop NOW.

They may also have a nuclear program too - I think George Bush 43 will finally finish what everyone wishes George Bush 41 should have.

To tell you the truth, I don't think Allied military casualties will be as high as everyone thinks. I think we will see more civilian casualties before this is over. Maybe not just in the U.S., but in other countries as well. :-(

And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I gladly stand up next to you
And defend her still today
Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the USA
