I just finished Folly by some middle-aged chick with mental problems. It took me forever to get through that book. Now I'm reading From The Corner Of His Eye by Dean Koontz. I'm really in the mood for a long, epic adventure...just haven't found the right book yet...

In celebration of the release of "The Mothman Prophecies" movie,I have been on a paranormal/cryptozoology reading jag:

1)John Keel-The Mothman Prophecies-highly recommended.(Not for the easily scared.)

2)Loren Coleman-Mothman and other Curious Encounters-not recommended.

3)J.P.O'Neill The Great New England Sea Serpent-highly recommended.(You will absolutely believe that "merhorse" type animals once existed,or still exist, after reading this book.Anyway, there are 2 clear photos of one taken out of a whales stomach in a recent book called "Cadborasaurus".)

4)John Kirk-In the Domain of the Lake Monsters-recommended.

also:

5)Lawrence Sutin-Divine Invasions-A Life of Philip K.Dick-highly recommended for PKD fans(and if you're not a fan,why not?)Also, read the book that condenses his diaries(title?);the chapters on the period before he wrote Valis-Divine Invasion-Timothy Archer are a real eye-opener.(He either had a total nervous breakdown or contacted a non-human intelligence.Yikes!)

That was an excellent book, a very quick read. The only thing that sucked was that the movie follows it almost to the letter, so when you read the book, you find yourself skimming because the dialogue is the same.

i too agree with Froy, I read Godfather during summer and because it is so similar you do skim it over.

tonight I read a book called "Eisntein's dreams" for schools all about just short descriptions of differenc conceptions of time. really weird and interesting in a weird way.

"Ghost Soldiers" by Hampton Sides

GREAT BOOK! I read that back in December on my Grandfather's suggestion. Sides did a great job weaving the past and present in flashbacks.

If you get a chance to catch it, they did an hour long documentary on the story on the history channel, interviewing Prince and some of the other survivors of the camp and the mission.

Speaking of Ghost Soldiers I believe that's going to be the next Spielberg/(Tom) Cruise joint project, the first being this year's Minority report based on the Philip K. Dick novel

Double Duty:

Hitler's Niece -- Ron Hanson ((bought it a long time ago, should finish up tonight))
*I highly recommend it to anyone... it's very well written, and a rather quick read

Catcher in the Rye -- JD Salinger ((Extensive Psychological Study for school))
*If you haven't read this, I'm shocked... it's an excellent story... if you like it or not

I hope to pick up Margaret Salinger's Memoir on her dad called Dream Catcher, one reviewer said "In the opening of J.D. Salinger's Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield, says, 'my parents would have about two hemorrhages apiece if I told anything personal about them . . . especially my father.'

So one can imagine the music of popping blood vessels in the remote New Hampshire countryside."

Should be a good read, if anyone's interested, I'll keep you posted about it.

On chapter 5 now. Very good so far and it really gives a first person insight into what the soldiers in Bataan went through. Death, disease and the brutality of their captors.
Would be interesting to see a movie made about the raid. Hope they cast it well.
I also do work in wargamming and passed this book idea onto a SCN designer to look at for possible game ideas at the squad level.
Now if I can just finish these other books I have in progress.
