here's how i view it GS. What's more upsetting and 'worse' to see: terrorists getting their ass kicked by Arnie, seeing the WTC in a film or seeing the death and destruction and rubble on the news?

I agree Ikea and as an avid film fan much like you i understand the importance of film on society as a whole. That is why i compared the present situation to Hoover's stance on organzied crime, i think it is bullshit to just ignore it. But i do agree in not glamorizing terrorists in film but then again i never saw a film where the terrorist was a hero. I can understand with strangelove where it puts nuclear war in a comedic sense as opposed to fail-safe which is pretty much the same film but on a more serious level. Because while hoover was out ignoring the mob hollywood was glamorizing mobsters with films and actors like cagney, bogart, muni, raft and others and it made mobsters look like heroes. But i do not see why die hard should not be aired or a film like the siege or even films which show the trade centers.

Here is an example as to why, while watching the siege it helped me better grasp what happened as far axs the tragedy. Plus seeing the twin towers which were shown several times in the skyline wide shots it made me also graps on what we lost. Seeing it on the news makes it seem almost surreal but seeing the towers stand in such beauty on celluloid made me realize how tragic it trully is and how the loss of life is trully unbearable.

apparently "the siege" was just on the other day, my friend said he saw it on tnt or something...

Yeah, and someone told me Die Hard was on, too.

Apparently, according to Access Hollywood, rentals of Die Hard, The Siege, and a few others have shot way up. People like seeing terrorists get it in the end, I guess. I think that says where Hollywood should go. Kill more terrorists!!

This is bull...every movie ever made has the potential to affect someone's emotions in both a POSITIVE and NEGATIVE way. If the way we were living as a society before the tragedy occurred doesn't continue along almost the same lines, then these assholes succeeded in accomplishing what they wanted...altering our lives.

SNL actually had a funny skit about it (yes it was funny) when Drew was hosting that had them having to cut the entire end of the movie out and refilming it with the anchor man/anchor woman just saying things they see out a window and Superman saving the world. They postponed colatteral damage and Big Trouble (Which doesn't have a release date yet--damn it) due to WTC. On the bright side I heard that SONY is leaving shots of the WTC in the spider-man skyline.

Speaking of movies about terrorists, anyone seeing Collateral Damage this weekend. I was not going to see it before Sept 11th, but now I want to. The first half hour is suppossed to be very realistic as to what happened Sept 11th.

I think I might. Arnold is due for a good movie.

Anyway, I find it completely ridiculous that they are trying to "protect" us from what we might see in films. We already saw it in real life!!! I really doubt that ignoring the fact that New York used to have 2 huge buldings is going to ease the pain that so many had. If they want to really protect us, then get our airforce, army, and navy to constantly be on alert for another attack.

teenweek, it's an arnold movie, don't be upset if it's not exactly the most realistic thing out there. it's supposed to stink.

Some arnold movies are pretty good. Terminator and Terminator 2, True Lies, Predator and Total Recall were good. Not all of his movies are bad. I have not seen any recent ones. I am not saying the last hour will suck, which very well might, but the first 30-40 minutes is suppossed to be good and hit very close to the WTC tragedy with his wife and daughter dying from a terrorist bombing.

If September 11th never happened, I probably never would have cared about this movie, but now I want to see it. I am sure many people feel the same way.

Can you actually believe that in Back to the Future last night, they let things like "son of a bitch" air (it's usually dubbed "son of a butthead" in Biff's case)
FTL, very often, Biff can just be heard saying, "bitch," like, "I'm gonna get that bitch." Now, that's bizarre.
