FBI National Press Office Certain information, while not specific as to target, gives the government reason to believe that there may be additional terrorist attacks within the United States and against U.S. interests overseas over the next several days. It was broadcast to law enforcement agencies asking them to go to their highest alert level. This is the same broadcast issued last Sunday. No specifics, just suspicion. It is legit. The statement provided no additional information. Justice Department (news - web sites)spokeswoman Mindy Tucker said the department had received new intelligence within the past few days about a potential attack and decided to alert the public as well as law enforcement agencies. ``We realize the importance of the public accurately understanding the kinds of alerts we are sending out to law enforcement,'' said Tucker. She said since Sept. 11 the FBI has sent law enforcement agencies five or six alerts. One that urged extra security and vigilance over crop-dusting operations was eventually made public. Attorney General John Ashcroft (news - web sites) has also warned Americans about possible attacks in retaliation for the U.S.-led bombing campaign in Afghanistan (news - web sites). ``We asked everyone to be on the highest alert and we're asking everyone to do that again,'' said Tucker. She added, in words similar to Ashcroft's this week, ``Americans should go on with their lives, there's no reason people should live in panic.'' It was the FBI's second request this week that law enforcement move to its highest state of alert. The first was on Sunday. Thursday's statement was the first to suggest attacks might occur within several days. Attorney General John Ashcroft and FBI Director Robert Mueller have said they intend to alert Americans to any credible threats about future terrorist plans. In recent days, the FBI has asked supervisors of water supplies, nuclear and electric power plant operators, owners of crop dusters and drivers of hazardous waste trucks among others to increase security to ward off attacks. ``We are working to do everything possible and we would enlist the help of citizens in that,'' Ashcroft said earlier Thursday, before the FBI warning was issued. | Psychopath Registered: May. 01 | This was also on CNN.com. It was an FBI update. I'd hardly say that it qualifies as "shit". Face it, whether anyone likes it or not, people want to be warned. Better safe than sorry. A lot of people (me included) are scared and trying to protect their loved ones in the best way they can. To just tear someone apart for posting something they read (that's accurate and NOT an email hoax or rumor) is just wrong. Also, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that I would think with a name like "MomYou'dLiketoF" -- that's a female...not a guy, as some of you seem to think. Carry on... The main reason I was so quick to post it was because it just freaked me out, and somehow, being on this board, and reading what other people have to say just helps...I guess it helped me more than it did you. I didn't mean to piss anyone off, but, I definitely thought it was worth posting given that it came from the justice dept. As I ramble on I realize I don't have any other real points to make right now. I just know that I'm scared and a lot of you are as well. I think I keep checking every major website every 2 seconds because it's almost as if something does happen I can stop worrying about what might happen. I hope sometime soon this board won't have any topics like this, but for now, I guess there'll more, not less. | ||||

The only thing I can come up with at the moment is, Mom (hey, that sounds kinda weird! lol), from one mother to another, you just have to keep on with life. Keep things as normal as possible for your kids, if not for yourself. Don't scare them more than necessary. We need to stay cautious. Forewarned is forearmed. Wow, I'm like a walking cliche'! :) Anyway, if you need to vent or need support, IM me. I'd be happy to oblige. And to you, Maynard, I apologize if I seemed to jump down your throat. Actually all the words, reassuring or not, are the reason I come here because they make things seem normal (normal being relative of course). SweetAngel, you're right about keeping it normal, especially for the kids, but I have to say that they are my biggest reason for being scared, I'm not worried about me, just them. I don't know what else to say right now, so until I can think of something else to post that might make someone laugh or get them pissed of :::cough:::Maynard:::cough::: I'll stick to reading :) | ||||
