Who here is going to see it? I've been thinking about it and I really dont know why I want to. I havent read the books, I dont have any kids but I still have a desire to see it for some reason. Am I crazy or are there others out there like me? And if there are others out there like me, should the world be afraid? Inquiring minds wanna know, I wanna know

Yeah Face, I'm in the same boat as you. No kids, but I still want to see it. I don't think it's a kids movie though, it's an all ages movie. Just be careful not to wear a trenchcoat and sit in the dark corner when you go to see it. People may get the wrong idea.

I have read the first two books and enjoyed them. They are definitely not just for kids and I'm hoping the movie is the same. Typically a movie never does justice to a book, I'm hoping this is one of the few exceptions.

Moreover, the incessant media hype that is getting people without children wanting to see this movie. Make sure to pick up your Harry Potter action figure on the way home...

There's nothing wrong with wanting to see what looks like a good movie, Facey. It's ok for adults to want to see kids movies, just look how much Monsters, Inc. made this weekend. It helps bring back that sense of wonder and imagination you had as a child.

I love the books and I can't wait to see it! I always read books before going to see a movie on which they're based, but unfortunately it always makes me too critical of the adaptation. At least you'll go into the movie fresh. I just hope they'll have late showings so there won't be ten million screaming kids in the theater

DVD only, no theatre. This move has 10 trailers before it starts.

I love kid movies. Two of my all time favorites are Toy Story and TS2. Two of the best quality movies on DVD.

I'm a fan of movies and books that have Magical themes (Wizards, Dragons and such) but I don't really have a desire to see this movie. I did try to read the first book when it came out, but it didn't really do much for me, and I quickly lost interest. Based on all the media hype surrounding it, I'm sure it will be a huge box-office smash.

If anything, I'll wait until it comes to PPV - it's not like I pay for those movies :)

I never read the books and truthfully I don't wanna see it only for that reason. You don't enjoy the movie as much cause you have no idea who the hell or what the hell a harry potter is. Half the fun in watching phantom menace was we knew star wars and we grew up with it and it was exciting to see it.

plus I feel with such a huge budget, so many expectations and so many billions not even millions but billions on the line, it's not gonna be all which is expected as far as artistically.

OK people, I heard that this movie is "expected" to make $2,000,000,000. Yup, you heard right, TWO BILLION DOLLARS. I'm not sure if that also includes the TV rights and shit too or just the box office.

well ofcourse it's gonna make the 2 billion.

ET was the all-time king for a while from it's release in 1984 up until Jurrasic park came out and speilberg broke his own box office record. jurrasic Park grossed just over the billion dollar mark with ticket sales, but that includes all International ticket sales which make up the bulk of the actual sales. I believe with jurrasic park 65% of the official take was international ticket sales.

But then Titanic came along and busted speilbergs bubble grossing last i heard over the 1.5 billion mark world wide. So with no surprise with the world wide mass appeal surrounding Harry Potter that this movie will break Titanics mark.

But maynard the 2 billion will just be ticket sales with their projections, now fit in merchandise, tv rights, etc etc. PLUS is this movie is succesful we are looking at 5 more movies to complete the 6 books, this could be a gold mine bigger than the star wars saga and the indiana jones saga combined.

a dark movie theatre filled with children? I'M THERE! Plus the movie is over two hours, plenty of time for a kid to wonder off on his or her own, or at least for the parent to use the bathroom and leave the kid unattended.

this whole harry potter franchise, between the 4 current books, the next however many books, movies for all the books, and all the crappy toys, advertising tie-ins (Coke paid $150 million already), and dvd sales plus the foreign distribution rights, is going to be worth at least $10 billion when all is said and done. The first movie is probably going to be the biggest money maker, maybe the second.

This movie was outstanding. If you liked "Slacker", you will like this movie. If you are a fan of animation, you will like this movie. It was one of the best movies I've seen in a while.

The problem I see with this is if they are going to make 5 more movies they will have to crank them all out relatively quickly. Young actors get older, and they lose their marketability (see the Home Alone franchise). Of course, they could always find another kid but once these actors star in movies with as much hype and anticipation as this one has, its hard to replace them down the line, which leads to sub-par sequels.

that is why the second film is being shot right now. there are four books, that means four movies can be done in about 3 or 4 years. plus the harry potter character and the other children age as the books go on.
I'm still more excite for "Lord of the Rings" next month.

last i heard they want to shoot each flick to coincide with the books so that we 'watch' the kids grow up with the movies.

I hadn't heard about this, but that's smart thinking on the studio's part. Looks like this franchise is in good hands.

And LOTR is definitely going to be a hell of an event - Every trailer I see makes me want to see it more and more.

There are actually gonna be 7 books when all is said and done gonzo, but i don't know if they are planning a movie for each book.

I am probably gonna go see it, i read all 4 books and i thought they were really great, plus my younger sister is borderline obsessed so i'm sure she'll drag me there whether i wanted to or not. I just am interested to see how they would bring such a complex book with so much going on to life in a movie.

I don't understand why movie statistics aren't represented in "Units Sold" as they are in the record industry. With inflation, a movie making 100 mil today would appear to be more successful than a movie that made 70 mil 10 years ago.

because tickets sold doesn't sound as impressive as dollars. But I agree, when you adjust for inflation and the fact that tickets actually do cost $10 now in the city, you definitely are playing with huge differences.

I'll probally see the movie in like 2 to 3 weeks. I'm hearing every show this week is sold out.

I think I'll eventually read the books. Do you know they published versions with a black cover for those who feel "embarassed" to read a kids book?

I think this flick is causing the "car-wreck" effect. Everyone is wondering what the fuck is going on. But I think it's gonna reach at least $100 mil this weekend if not more during thanksgiving. This movie will reach $200 mil by next week. Trust me on this.

At least kids these days are reading instead of that vapid Pokemon shit.

And spit, I'm definately seeing "How High". Redman and Meth in the same flick? Pricless. I saw the video How High part 2 on MTV yesterday and I can't wait to see that flick.
