That was one of the best carlin shows I've seen in a while. It seemed like it was over as soon as it started though (even though it was an hour). And I agree, his closing "2 Commandments" was pure genius, if not inspired. He's really starting to look old these days though LOL.

In short, YES... Carlin is God.
I saw him up here in Binghamton this past Tuesday... his warmup act for HBO... and he killed. Imagine, 18-22 year olds laughing at a 70 year old. That doesn't happen these days. The commandments, and the people who should die were the best bits.

"Now the seasons over, and I feel it gettin' cold. I wish I could take you to some sandy beach road, we'ed never grow old. Ah but baby you know thats just jive, but tonight's bustin' open and.... I'm alive!"~Bruce Springsteen (Thunder Road Est. 1973)

God?

If he were a god, would he have to give blow-jobs for a ride?

The minute he walked on stage when I saw him in Atlantic City not too long ago he says "So I was thinking about pussy farts..." and the place went insane. Theres something very twisted about this man, and he gets even better as he gets older. Carlin rules! You see my little streaming quotes down there, those are Carlin short takes. The man is a LEGEND!

As a huge Carlin fan, seeing him for years dating back to the day they hauled him off the stage at Summerfest in Milwaukee for saying the seven words you can't say on TV (and apparently on a lakefront stage in Milwaukee), I for one was very dissapointed with this special. I saw him Thursday night at the tapeing of Friday's Letterman and the "clean" for TV bit was better than this show. Granted the two commandments were brilliant, but he struggled with the delivery. This show did not flow well as past shows where one bit builds into the next. There was no "fall out of your seats" laughing here. I guess even the master can be off once in awhile.

I thought Alanis Morissette was God and George Carlin was Cardinal Ignatius Glick?

And I thought it was just me. It's been a while since I've laughed out loud at ANY comediene. Granted, it was better then 98% of any act out there, it still wasn't as good as his past shows.

Then, you need to remember that he told O&A he had to drop his big "piece of material" becasue of 9/11. It was about how he enjoys watching people die in natural disasters. Sounds like it could have been a great bit, on the order of the PPV prison bit, but he had to cut it and had a month to put together something to replace it.

Maybe it's a little late to be the voice of decention...

But, I found the show quite entertaining for the most part. I must, however, agree with OAS. This one just didn't have the "flow" I have come to expect from George. [*Edit: He did attempt to cover for this by adding the line "I don't do transitional humor" but, that seems a bit thin] Come to think of it, the last one wasn't all that memorable either.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it was bad. I did find most of both shows extremely funny.

Also, I realize that using old material can be increadibly humorous when timed appropriately but, he was presenting several lines as original that just weren't. For example:

"I've never had a 10 but, one night I had five twos. I think that should count"

Ok, it's not like he stole it. It was his joke. But, it's so old that even I have used it... Did he think this was a new young audiance that wouldn't remember? I was kind of hurt or, at least offended by this...

I remember thinking this on several occations during the hour show but no other specific examples come to mind.

Maybe you guys can think of others?

There was one awkward moment. When he said "I'm all for anyone killing people"...then he used school children as an example along with other examples. When he said this the place grew silent, and you heard people shout is disgust.

Myself....that was my favorite part. I dont judge Carlin by how hard we all laugh but how "over the top" he goes. He said some offensive things that would make even Norton proud to be a fan.

I thought it was okay;but not anywhere near his best;and I love George Carlin.

I didn't like the bit about running people over and leaving them in the road at all.The long complaints bit seemed like bitching for the sake of bitching.

He has become more and more strident over the years;the angry young man has become the bitter old man.Though he probably deserved more recognition and show-biz opportunities than he received over the years;I bet he took the cancellation of his sitcom pretty hard;a lot of talentless comics(Richard Lewis)have been given many more shots than him.

For really classic Carlin, check out the 1972-1974 LP's AM and FM;Class Clown;and Occupation Foole:

"Snatch,Box,and Pussy all have other meanings...Even in a Walt Disney movie you can say:We're gonna snatch that pussy and put it in a box....But twat stands alone!".
