Hey guys below is a link to a petition that will hopefully get President Bush to give all emergency workers that responded to the WTC;

The Presidential Medal of Freedom for WTC Emergency Personnel

I know linking is usually not allowed but I think everyone on this board that listens to O&A would agree these people deserve something for there bravery.

Looks like twenty people read it.

First, what is the criteria for being awarded this medal?

One site says:
quote:

Presidential Medal of Freedom
The Presidential Medal of Freedom may be awarded to any person who has made an especially meritorious contribution.

Eligibility:

Any United States citizen may be granted this award by the President.

Criteria:

This award recognizes individuals who have made significant meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States; world peace; cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.

This site lists all the people who have been awarded the Medal of Freedom and why.

Looks like everybody from a biologist to Audrey Hepburn and Walt Disney has gotten this award.

Stop talking to yourself.

You can fool some people sometimes. But you cant fool all the people all the time. So now you see the light. Stand up for your right.

I think there has been some talk about giving a posthumous one to Father Mychal Judge the FDNY Chaplain who was killed giving last rites to a fireman at the WTC. The man deserves it. If you guys and gals wanna do something there is a petition going around to make Sept. 11th a National Holiday honoring firefighters. The kid who thought it up lost his Dad at the WTC. I work for FDNY and I am speaking for myself here but I did my job that day. Nothing more, nothing less. Just thank a fireman or a cop for the jobs they do if you see em out in the street, and don't forget about the dispatchers behind the scenes.

It ain't easy being greasy in a world full of cleanliness and you know, all that other madness.
