I was watching the news, and they said a lot of companies due to financial reasons and the moods of their employees have decided not to have company holiday parties this year.

My company is having one, and our department is having one as well. I have never been to one as this is my first official year here, and my first real office job.

If you're having one, where is it going to be, and what time of day is it?

Mine is at one of our sites (its a homeless shelter) in Harlem from 2-6....my department's hasn't been decided yet, but they usually go out to lunch at a nice restaurant downtown.

WHY? Are you planning on crashing it and putting everyone there to sleep?:)

LOL naw...I just figured it was odd that ours was in the middle of the day and in HARLEM in the basement of a homeless shelter, when last year we had it in my office on WALL STREET. :)

yeah company party, pfft.

We'll have a company party when we get a christmas bonus or any kind of bonus, or when we get paid for over-time. Or when he actually gives a shit about anyone but himself.

My Christmas party is at Tavern on the Green. I as well as many people in my group don't think we should have a company Christmas party this year for several reasons.

1)We fired almost 400 people from our European and U.S. offices.
2)2 Vice President's were killed at the World trade Center.
3)The economy and our bonuses will be at best half of what they were last year.
4)Because of amount of people in the company, not everyone will be able to bring guests.

We are having our party next friday at Fraunces Tavern next Friday, which works out nice since its about a block and a half from where I work. We used to have it annually at Harbor Lights in the Seaport, but rumor has it that they shut down. I find this odd because I see it is still advertised in many Seaport ads in the paper (anyone here know for sure if its closed for business?). Personally, I'm glad we are having it - if anyone needs an inexpensive (free) night of getting hammered, its me. One of the stipulations this year is no friends, spouses of former employees will be allowed (they're checking ID at the door). This has always been the rule, but every year a former favorite son or two from the Firm manages to show up, or someone smuggles in a wife or a friend, etc. Tough luck for them this year.

No party here. :( They actually stopped most of them through out our company last year. They used to have a great parties too. They were in our conference dining rooms on premises and it was open bar, what else could I ask for. The food was also great, they had a raw bar 4 years ago, that's when our company was on top of the world....but alas no more.

I plan on having my own party.

Open bar...very fun

I know it's wrong and it makes you nauseous.
But I'm not suspicious, I'm cautious.
And you know I want to love and trust you.
But it's really a lot to try and adjust to.

that's too bad because a lot of restaurants, catering companies and their staff rely on office parties to get through the holiday season.

My boss is having dinner catered and a bar with bartender at his home for all of us. It's in two weeks. Should be interesting.

I am waiting for Panther's company party it is usually spectacular and gives me an excuse to buy a really expensive evening gown and all accessories. ;) It's in a few weeks, let's go shopping honey! ;)

my favorite is martha stewart who told her staff that she wouldnt give one this year but that her employees should sign up to host a series of small parties. the upshot was that if you signed up, martha would pick your guest list not the host. nobody signed up and she sent out a series of angry memos questioning peoples company loyalty and holiday spirit. what an egomaniac!

The Union I work for throws one every year and it will probably be at some catering hall in Brooklyn, but since I really don't like a lot of the people I work with, I think I am gonna pass on that one...The folks I work closely with are throwing a party at our supervisors place the same night as the board Xmas Party. But I agree that if you don't like a lot of the people you work with don't bother going. It's not like they are going to get you a present or anything.

My company always has had big, swanky affairs. A summer country-club party and the holiday party. The last few years at The Pierre Hotel for the NYC office and Garden City Hotel for the LI office, once at the China Club, and for the firm's 10th Anniversary, everyone was flown to Puerto Rico for the weekend. Usually with a headlining comic (Jackie Mason, Robert Klein, David Brenner, etc.) Alas, this year they need to cut costs, so no fiesta at all. And that was decided before 9/11.

Thank you for being a friend.
