Here is an excerpt from the link [Cinco De Spico]... Cinco de Mayo is a date of great importance for the Mexican and Chicano communities. It marks the victory of the Mexican Army over the French at the Battle of Puebla. Althought the Mexican army was eventually defeated, the "Batalla de Puebla" came to represent a symbol of Mexican unity and patriotism. With this victory, Mexico demonstrated to the world that Mexico and all of Latin America were willing to defend themselves of any foreign intervention. Especially those from imperialist states bent on world conquest. If it is both, please let me know. I didn't read the entire page. Over slash I was under the same impression as you,as it being mexican independence day.I guess i was wrong quote: This message was edited by Canweseeyourstuff on 12-4-01 @ 8:02 AM

O&A Board Regular Registered: Feb. 01 | Mexico declared its independence from mother Spain on midnight, the 15th of September, 1810. So, I do not see how May 5th is their Independence Day. I always thought May 5th was similar to our Veterans Day for the soldiers who fought the French and traitor Mexican army of on the morning of May 5, 1862. Tequila comment?
