I know lists suck but here's a pretty brief, unordered list of my favorites of 2001 in TV and movies and occasional commentary

Movies (List Edited to Include TOXIC AVENGER 4):
1. Mullholland Drive
2. Ghost World
3. The Royal Tenenbaums
4. Memento
5. Man Who Wasn't There- Tony Shaloub gives stand out performance as Cochran esque performance a bit overlong but pretty damned stylish.
6. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
7. Donnie Darko- hardly got a release but was a great movie of a schizophrenic high schooler awaiting the end of the world. The ending could have been much better but the rest of the movie was intriguing enough for a support.
8. Citizen Toxie: Toxic Avenger 4- Played for one week. Completely offensive but if you want old school gore, retards and an old lady pooping herself. This is the movie for you.
9. The Score- I prefer this thriller to Ocean’s 11. Not the best script or best movie over all but exciting and the cast is remarkable.
10. Tailor of Panama- Little recognition. Quirky Spy dark comedy. Pierce Brosnan plays off Bond, doesn't mimic.

Honorable Mention:
* Lord of the Rings- not my favorite, not as good as everyone made it out to be but it was a lame year and it was visually spectacular.
* Ocean’s Eleven
* Snatch
* With Friends Like Harry...

Movie that could have been great but was blown:
* AI

Not sure if it should count:
* Apocalypse Now Redux- A lot of the added scenes were worthless (planation scene excised wisely) but seeing the Kilgore attack on the village on the big screen wasn't topped.
-------------------------------------------

Top 12 Shows of 2001

1. The Daily Show- by far the best show on TV. Props for continuing at full force post 9/11. Best commentators and correspondents on TV.
2. 24- best show of the new season by far.
3. South Park
4. Family Guy- originally I didn't like this show but it's not only grown on me but is the best network cartoon on TV by far
5. Buffy the Vampire Slayer- Hasn't gotten lame yet after six season, constantly rejuvenites self while I'm still ashamed to admit I watch it I The Nerd Trio provides more comedy than 95% of the comedy shows on TV and it remains the most spanakable show on TV.
6. Dennis Miller Live
7. Conan O'Brien
8. Titus- as far as sitcoms go, this one is by far the best on TV. It's funny, smart and the fact that Stacy Keach hasn't gotten an Emmy nomination shows how useless awards are.
9. Oz- it last appeared on TV in February but still remains THE most powerful of the HBO shows. Intense, gripping, well written and just well plain well made. Lee Teregsen's one of the most underrated actors on television and the rest of the cast does phenomenol work.
10. Alias- well done and Jennifer Garner is really, really hot.
11. CSI
12. The Sopranos- fine, it was a lame season . But be honest, who didn’t enjoy Ralphie or Furio and stay tuned week after week hoping for the best that never came.

Honorable Mention:
* The Job- haven't seen it for awhile (lack of repeats) but it was definitely a great fucking show. Maybe it was the time factor that's why it's not in my top 12. Returning the 16th.
* The Man Show
* Six Feet Under- better than Sopranos in writing and plot. Realistic, genuinely well done. Why Sopranos is ranked higher? maybe it's the hype and the fact that it's more appealing and intense than SFU but SFU is a genius show with great characters.
* The Tick- best sitcom of the new season.
* That 70s Show- another great FOX sitcom. Not as good as Titus but any show that gives Kevin McDonald a recurring role gets mad ups in my book.
* Angel- though a bit lacking in the last season finale and the current season it's still a great show.
* Futurama- far better than Simpsons but not as good as FAmily Guy. Still great for some laughs though.

There- I know no one cares but it's just something I did.

Probably not since if it looked particularly bad I didn't watch it. But as for WORST MMOVIES of this year I saw and remembered- teetering between Tomcats and 13 Ghosts.

Tomcats I saw because it looked like a grossout comedy and i had nothing better to do. It had like NO Laugh.

13 Ghosts I saw for free and it had the most stereotypical black character in it since Amos and Andy.

I actually thought the Score kinda sucked. And this coming from someone who says a movie is automatically great if Edward Norton is in it. Just very slow and boring.

In regards to the worst movie. No question. The Animal. Tomcats was bad, and Freddie Got fingers was pretty bad too (never saw 13 Ghosts) but Tomcats and Freddie both had moments where a shortt chuckle would be warranted.

But in the Animal, I was just stonefaced the whole movie. I forced myself to see it. Due to having a descrambler, I've seen a ton of movies, and this was definately the worst

Well, I only saw 6 movies that came out this year.

1. Mulholland Drive - easily the best movie out of the ones I saw
2. The Man Who Wasn't There - best movie nobody saw
3. Memento - Overrated by many, but a great script and good concept
4. The Lord Of The Rings - Very disappointing, considering I love the books and have read them many times. Still, judging it as a movie and not as an adaptation of Tolkien's work, it was good enough.
5. A.I. - Spielberg rooned it, even though it was a good story, and the acting was good all around. If Kubrick had lived to direct this movie, it would have been a masterpiece.
6. Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back - Kevin Smith's worst movie. There were some good laughs, but it fell way short of my expectations.

Damn, what a weak year for film.

As for TV, OZ rules, Sopranos had a weak but enjoyable season (except for that last episode), Simpsons has been god-awful lately, South Park had a good but inconsistent year, and that's really all I watch.

AI- Jude Law was good but his character was undeveloped, Teddy was great, the effects were fantastic but Spielberg rooned it. It was too niced up. You had the feeling it could have been darker but was Spielberged up. And the Robin Williams part just was horrendous. hence my place for it. Some parts had better effects than LotR:FOTR in my opinion.
