I was wonderin if any of you ever purchased a computer from the "Sunshine Computer-Appliances & Electronics" store in Brooklyn. Seeing their ad in the paper they seem to have some great deals, and I'm wonderin if they're not too good. Basically do/have any of you shop(ped) at this store and know if its a good reputable company or am I goin to get screwed over if I buy a comp from there?

-Any (useful) input is appreciated.

I don't know about the store you mentioned, but just be careful with the small computer and electronics stores in general. A few of them by me got in trouble for "bait and switch" techniques where they were advertising shit that they never even had in stock. Damn crooks.

Computer prices have dropped so much in the last year, there's no reason to take the chance.

I found out @ that sunshine place you have to go to the store and order the "special savings computers" and allow them 2 or 3 weeks to order it/put it together. So I'm guessing they hope people don't feel like waiting and buy one of their more expensive models. There are other stores that have similar comps/prices, not sure if they do the wait 2-3 weeks deal too.

I'm lookin @ other options now, hopefully soon I'll get somethin.

If this store is like one of those places that advertises in the Daily News (with computers, TV's, phones, etc. at seemingly low prices), my suggestion to you is not to buy anything from them. I went to one of these stores a few years ago for a TV set, and it turns out most of the stuff they sell is either floor model stuff or product returns that don't make it back to the factory (esp. computers).

As Froy said, PC prices are super low - and at least if you buy from Dell or something, you know you're getting a brand-new machine with a warranty. At these small chop-shops, you may not get any (esp. on a floor model).

Hell, nowadays you can buy a book or do a little net-research and build your own PC (working on that myself). If you know what you're doing you can build a machine to have EXACTLY what you want and save even more $$.

Just remember, the old saying goes "if it sounds to good to be true, it usually is".

You really don't save as much as you used to by building your own.

Not if you buy retial, no - but if you look online there are tons of deals on parts and boards. You just gotta put in a little time searching, but they're there.

Either way, these stores are bad news - worse than AIDS.
