I saw a commercial last night on HBO before six feet under came on. Why are they doing this? Do we really need this? Visit this Website

To quote the commercial from last night...
"A day that changed the world"
Other than getting hasseled more than before at the airport, what about the world has really changed?

We really hate towel heads now? :) I think allot of things have changed in the US, but the world, not really. Except for Afghanistan, their rocks and dirt piles have been moved around.

2000+ plus families had shitty holidays in Dec ‘01. Our brothers and sisters went to war and are dieing for us. Israel and Palestinian are having some trouble. Nothing much.

Whoa... Slow down there tough guy.

No one's questioning the impact on those 2000+ families. And, I certainly don't mean to minimalize the tragedy. I'm little offended at your implication.

Again, has this changed "The World"?

Israel and Palestinian are having some trouble.
Israel and Palestinian have been "having some trouble" since long before september. Some might even say that the trouble they are having played a huge part in what happened here.

I think you may have missed my point. I was just thinking that maybe we've, dare I say it?, returned to normalcy. And, maybe this kinda answers my original questions... "Why are they doing this? & Do we really need this?"

Nothing new there.

Everything is becoming more normal. People make jokes about Sept 11th. Asshole politicians and actors compare killing cows to Sept 11th or President bush winning the election to Sept 11th.

Airport security still sucks. The tunnels are now open again to single occupant vehicles. Basically all but the victims families, who many see as greedy cashing in on their loved ones deaths have gone on with their lives. Things are getting more back to normal every day. Flags are dissapearing off cars and houses if they are not gone already.

We never have been safe - but we chose to ignore that fact cause we're Americans and NOTHING can happen to Americans.

Hell, even the new airport security isn't much more secure - it's just that waiting for a long time gives people the ILLUSION that things are safer, even though it's more likely that your wait is longer because the airlines had to cut staff.

Edit: Yeah, things are returning to normal. And that's why there will be another big terrorist attack in the future. People just figure they've done the worst possible, what more could they do? Yeah well.... they will. And it won't be pretty when they do.

I was not trying to be tough, there was a question stated, “What about the world had really changed” and I stated a reply. It was not directed at you it was a generic statement blanketed to anybody that thinks the world is the same prior to 9-11.

I got your point, have we has individuals returned to normalcy? A huge % of us have and that sucks. Has the world in general gone back to normalcy, I don’t know yet. We are all still aware of 9-11 and the implications on society, economy, emotionally and how fragile life really is.

I don’t think any documentary cannot hold a candle to ABC’s (I think it was ABC’s) documentary with the French camera crew and we don’t need a 1000 others.

Point taken.

It may suck, but it's called Human Nature. As time goes by, we tend the lessen the impact the events have on our life. Remember when it first happened and we found out the truth? Remember the emotions you felt? Anger, rage, sadness, shock. Remember the kid from Washington who called O&A and talked about his father being killed in the Pentagon attack? I am not an emotional person by any stretch of the imagination, but I almost cried in the car when the heard the sadness and devastation in that kid's voice.

Now, I doubt that you have the same emotions. I doubt, unless you were personally affected by the tragedy, that you have the same sadness and rage as you did back then. Because you have to move on. I'm not saying that you have to completely forget about it, but you can't constantly think about it. No matter how hard it is, the families who lost loved ones have to move on. We all have to move.

There are probably two things that happened on O&A that I will always remember - the Britney Spears Virginity bit and that kid's phone call.

What I got out of that show was that firemen pretty much just sit around and eat. When a skyscraper has a fire on a upper floor, there's not alot, if anything, they can do.

What bothers me is how everyone who died in the towers is now a hero. Most of them were not heroes, they were just victims.

If people want to find a forum to express their grief, I understand some people need that, but what they don't need is the "HBO shop" logo next to their heartfelt writings. It is just like that documentary JBA mentioned, I believe it was CBS JBA, it was a very good documentary, but if CBS was really showing it as a tribute to those who died they should have soaked up the costs and not have it sponsered by god damn Nextel. That's what aggrevates me the most is people making money off of this whole thing under the guise of proceeds going to charity, which means after I pay my salary and all my expenses if anything is left over I'll send it to the Red Cross so they can pay their salaries and expenses before sending a fraction of a cent to a parentless child. All these books people have written about their experiences is the same thing, it sickens me, and how many times has Time magazine used a giant 9/11 on the cover or a pic of the towers to sell more issues.

Lizzie Borden took an axe
And gave her mother forty whacks.
And when she saw what she had done,
She gave her father forty-one.
